Sorely black and blue,
from head to soul.
Her bruises go unhealed in the summer haze.
And the scorching pavement
leads her back,
to her green days in spring
where the beds of other’s lovers
always seemed softer.
Violent red in the autumn,
her dripping blood is camouflaged
by the ailing leaves
of the maple on the mountain.
She beads off the edge of the cliff,
and pools in the barren valley below.
In the winter her whiteness
ignites her loathing.
She lays in the legions
of anomalous snowflakes,
and forced like those who fell before her,
she fades into the drift.
Her radiance is severed,
caught up in the night breeze,
and gusts away.
