Description You getting this wip now here - because I have no idea when I will ever finish it but having it rotting here maybe will kick my own butt to maybe finish it faster

Was an actually older sketch to a bit play with colours and a bit more spiritual one from him. I not 100% sure wanting to keep the expression as that, I considering make it more passionate and 'spiritual' instead but as said its a wip which got like 10 mins colouring below.
I'm such a lazy fart

Colors are my weakness I really love working with them and trying out various combination which can support visual storytelling. Here I tried to make it otherworldy, spiritual but not dead

We are kind of opposites. While coloring is your weakness (really, your coloring is great from my view) sketching is my weakness too. When sketching, I usually use the bending and curving tools for better angles.

Oh I meant - sorry my English is a bit bad! - I am absolutely weak to not say no to it or not work with it!
With sketching I am so-so sometimes it comes as a heartbeat, other time struggling with it but it is mainly because I don't exactly know what I want just that I 'want to draw this mood'.
I thinking in atmosphere and mood - I want a cheerful dreamy image or a gloomy rainy or a dark with soft ray of light and hope.. etc and then coming to compose the central figures and I bleed out on posing.
Once I know the position I can work myself around it but thinking a pose a good position killing me jfhgjgfjhsaf

Dude. You’re awesome!
When I think of painting, I’ve never thought about the atmosphere being dreamy or gloomy. I kept things really weird sometimes. Sometimes I leave the background blank when the character’s expression is blank (lol it’s a bit stupid.) I just can’t work with background all the well. Even if it’s just a color, I can’t pick out which is the best. That’s the only weak point with me when coloring.

Atmosphere to me helping a lot because that giving me the lead on how vivid or dull tones of colors I want or how heavy colors to imply.
Working with a heavier image I might not use that strong colors where a cheerful I try to make it vibrant to bring out that happiness and joy!
Backgrounds aren't hard if you compose it together with your main figures. It is nearly impossible when I try to force a background later for an art you never planned one for.

Backgrounds not always needed! Lot of works can be amazing without them as well
Backgrounds can be used though to giving weight to the work - to portray sizes well (like a small hero against the big bad world you can portray with huge giant mountains, trees or threatening buildings).
I struggled a lot with them too as I was more character focused and always put my main attention on the character expression ended up not being able to add much elements behind.
I found at time a mid-solution to add simple decorative elements such as roses or maybe some art nouveou curves but it became a lot easier when started to think more in sceneries, as whole illustrations.. telling my story with my works more then introduce my characters.

People don't like to read so they never will read my descriptions if it is longer then one sentence - so I must make them visually adapt my thoughts with my art and if it is talkative enough maybe pick the interest and make them want to know more

I always thought a background is always needed because I felt the need that a character belongs somewhere. Whenever there’s a blank background, I am never satisfied with my work because it’s incomplete. It’s just my greatest pet peeves, but sometimes I let it slide.

You’re writing a story for your art? Are you a comic artist? I think it’s amazing when people turn their art into stories. Two years ago, I like keeping my work on Wattpad and my art separate. I kept telling myself if I can’t compose a story then why bother a comic? I’ll probably send my ass to hell! (Excuse the language.) Though I think you’re on to something. It’s sometimes better to paint a setting rather than writing them because it’s more vivid.

Nah - there are many reasons why background not needed for an art really - it can look good without as sometimes having the main object be in ultimate focus gives a lot more to the whole

I not really a writer so I try to draw the way my art can "tell a story" to the one looking at it. Which not much seen right now as I am all scattered and beside the contest entry wolf none of my uploaded arts are completed but wips and sketches.
And not all my works up here either but trying to separate some of my works for easier tracking. I do want to make a comic now though!
I have a collab partner who helping with storyboard and scenery writing for it - but we both just filling out holes in the world before start splitting the whole into actual chapters. I hope we can get a chapter done or started end of this year!
A lot of work to keep together and I need to do 600 sketches for race, racial features, clothing styles and nation  flags/symbols. So far I only have finalized visual of one of the main cast (whom my avatar is too) but even he will need more set of cloth design to get.

If you are a writer soul and also can draw you have everything you need to make the two come together and improve your art the best!

When you draw - how you start it? How you decide what to draw and how to approach?

Best of luck to you and your friend’s comic collaboration! Sounds like a really fun activity, but for me, I like to fly solo. 😂

Maybe you’re right about the background being blank. I think you’re right because some comic artist doesn’t add a background.

When drawing, I usually sketch it out onto a small sketch book first. I let my hand and mind wander all they want. Be as free as they want. All until I come to an image that might trigger some sort of idea in my mind....

Alright. In simple terms, I meant I just draw and draw until a picture forms in my head. What’s even interesting depends on the music I listen to during the time I’m sketching. If it’s sad, I’ll sketch out an sad expression or something that symbolizes sadness. It all depends on my mood. The problem is I get mood swings a lot too. *glares at my music library*
