soulmate au
Staring at the house in front of you, you hear the car door slam shut as your friend hops out of the car. She offers you a cheeky grin in response to the unimpressed look you give her. “You said we weren’t coming here,” you glare.
Yui only laughs in response. She takes your hand in hers in order to drag you towards the door. “I know!” She throws open the door, and you are met with quite the sight. You had never really been to a party like this before, and though you wanted to scoff at it, you were kind of star-struck by the ordeal.
Yui nudges you in the side playfully. “See? It’s not all that bad,” she teases.
“Oh, shut up!” You laugh, pushing her away. She leads you further into the house. You pass loads of people along the way, bumping into idle dancers before awkwardly apologizing. This really wasn’t your scene...
”Ah, Daichi! Long time no see,” Yui greets. You look around for who she’s speaking to, and find a familiar face. Somehow, seeing him eases your worries. If Yui were to leave for whatever reason, you wouldn’t have to quietly hug the wall. You greet him as well, small talk ensuing. Yui begins to blush’s slightly as they talk, which makes you realize what a shame it was they weren’t soulmates. Subconsciously, you brush your fingers over your shoulder.
Let’s get married!
Though you aren’t sure who the hell says that to someone they just met, you find your heart beating quicker when you think about meeting them. You wonder how you still haven’t met them, being in your second year of college. The thought makes your throat dry in anxiousness. Maybe you wouldn’t meet them at all. Maybe you had missed them.
You excuse yourself from the conversation so you can get a drink to calm your nerves. You were probably overthinking it... probably. Reaching for a cup, someone stumbles backward into you. The drink in their hand spills over your top, and you are frozen for a moment. You had just bought this. It was one of your favorites, and now its stained from the mixed drink. To make matters worse, it was light colored too. The second you notice that your bra is starting to show through the fabric, you force your legs to move toward the bathroom without running.
Shutting the bathroom door as calmly as you possibly can, you flick on the light. You let out a quiet sigh, turning away from the door.
Oh my God. The world really does hate you today.
You aren’t sure what to do. Honestly, you probably look like a deer in headlights. As does the man standing in front of you. Fuck.
”Oh- Oh my God,” you mumble to yourself. Quickly turning back to the door, you frantically try to open the door. The knob doesn’t budge. No no no no. You were actually stuck in the bathroom with a guy you accidentally walked in on as he peed. You were cursed. You were actually cursed.
”This is the worse day of my life,” you cry, letting your head fall against the door with a thump. This seems to awaken the guy from whatever trance he was stuck in. You hear him gasp quietly. You turn to him, red-faced and shaky. “I am so sorr-“
”L-LET’S GET MARRIED!” He shouts out of the blue. Your breath gets caught in your throat and your heart skips a beat. He stares at you excited and nervous all at once. He seems to realize what he says, and his cheeks redden. “Ah- um- I’m your, ya know-“
”Soulmate...” you finish, lips quirking upward. He was here! He was actually here! You find yourself staring into his eyes with a stupid smile on your face. Clearing your throat, you reach out a hand. “I’m (Y/N).”
”Ryuunosuke.” As his hand meets yours, something akin to a firework shoots through you. He lets out a relieved sigh, reluctantly pulling his hand away. “I gotta admit, I was pretty nervous about meeting you. I always wondered what I did to make this be the first thing you said to me,” he laughs nervously, lifting up his shirt a bit.
This is the worst day of my life etches itself across his abdomen. You choke out an airy laugh. “I’m really sorry.”
”Don’t worry about it. I’m just glad I met you,” he smiles, “Can I... Can I see yours?” You nod eagerly, pulling down the sleeve of your ruined shirt. His grin only widens at the words. Suddenly, he pulls you into a hug. A comforting warmth spreads through your body as his arms gingerly surround you. You can feel his quick heartbeat against your cheek. You could get used to this. You tug him closer, burying your nose into his shirt.
”I waited my whole life for you,” you murmur. He lets out a breath of air that is almost a laugh.
”Same here.”
As you pull away, you both smile sheepishly at each other. You always wondered how you would meet your soulmate, hoping for some sweet moment to bring you together. You suppose this isn’t so bad.
”Who the hell pees with the lights off?”
