Soulmate AU

Staring at the words on your wrist, you grimace. It's not that you don't want a soulmate, you yearn to meet yours actually. However, you partially want to find them so you can slap them for the vulgar words permanently on you. Of all the things they could say... Your friends had such romantic things on their bodies, but not you. Of course you were stuck with this. You remember asking your mom to read the words to you before you could read, but she only gasped at what she saw.

HOLY SHIT!

You read the words again and again. Maybe they would just be surprised to meet you? Would they be happy? What if this phrase was a bad reaction? You had wondered these things your whole life. You couldn't wait to meet your soulmate and put these thoughts to rest. Glancing at the clock in the front of the room, you pray for time to edge on. You're so close to the end of the day. Ten more minutes. Ten minutes that feel like an eternity.

To pass the time, you carefully trace the words on your inner wrist. You study the handwriting like you had many times before. It's scratchy-- close to chicken scratch. Any closer, and you wouldn't be able to read it. You love it though. It was your soulmate; how could you not? As vulgar and messy as the words are, they'll still lead you to your soulmate. Someone who was created just for you. You look around the room. High schoolers who had found their soulmates could easily be spotted. Most sat close to each other, gazing lovingly at one another. Would your soulmate be like that? Or would they be too shy? You couldn't imagine it. Looking back at your wrist, you remind yourself that this is something they're yelling at someone they just met.

The bell finally rings, and you quickly gather your things. As you exit the door, your best friend skids to a stop in front of you. Her hair is messy, her uniform out of place, and she breathes heavily with rosy cheeks. She obviously sprinted here from the other side of the second year hall, but she didn't look one bit unhappy.

"Hey, hey! You wanna come with me to the boy's volleyball practice? Ennoshita wants me to go, but I don't wanna be alone," she grins. You hesitate. You had homework, and you were beyond tired. As she catches on to your hesitation, she silently pleads you to join. You both have an argument using only your eyes, like best friends do, before you give in with a sigh.

"Fine... I guess I can go. You have to buy me a Garigari-kun Popsicle though!" you tease, falling in stride with your best friend. She huffs, but agrees nonetheless. Your cheeky smile only increases at the deal. On your way, she fills you in on every aspect of her day excitedly. You didn't see her that much during the day because you were in the college prep classes, but she always kept you up to date. You listen intently, occasionally adding here and there, but are otherwise silent. She boasts about how cute Ennoshita is, whom she had just met a few weeks ago. They were soulmates, and the way they got along made it obvious.

"He's so cute! With as shy as he was in the beginning, he really surprised me..," she trails off, staring at the gym in front of her. She side glances at you with a sly grin. "You ready?"

"Is this something special or..? Isn't it just a volleyball practice?"

"I mean- yeah... But it's Karasuno's volleyball practice! They're amazing! Come on! Don't tell me you haven't seen them play!"

"...I don't really... follow school sports."

She sighs heavily with a roll of her eyes, "I've got to drag you to one of their games sometime." Dramatically, she braces herself in front of the door. She looks over her shoulder at you before looking back at the door. She takes a deep breath and theatrically throws open the gym doors.

"Tada!~ Ka-ra-sun-o!" she announces, drawing out the syllables of your school's name. You're immediately got caught up in the action. They seemed to be in the middle of a scrimmage. You accidentally tune out (f/n) cheekily greeting Ennoshita. Something had drawn your immediate attention to the court.

"ROLLINGGGG THUNDER!"

The boy who shouted this dives and receives the ball with ease, somersaulting back into a standing position. Your eyes widen in surprise and awe as the ball glides perfectly to the setter.

"THAT WAS AMAZING!" you shout without thinking. He jumps nearly two feet in the air. As he does, he shouts:

"HOLY SHIT!"

There's a sudden silence of shock, and time seems to move in slow motion. The boys head whips towards you, and you stare at him with a slack jaw. A smile slowly grows across his face, and his eyes light up. You can't move, and you feel something blocking your throat. Just as he seems like he's able to find some words...

A volleyball nails him in the side of the face...

He's immediately knocked to the ground. Your hands cup around your mouth as you gasp. The spiker on the other side of the net seems about ready to cry.

"N-noya! I'm so sorry!"

"Is he dead?!" another player asks.

"Are you an idiot or something? Asahi didn't kill him, dumbass."

"Nice Tsukki!"

You quickly rush over to the boy, "Are- Are you okay!?"

He slowly opens his eyes, blinking away the protruding light. You... look like an angel. Without hesitation, the boy jumps to his feet. He swivels himself to face you.

"I'm better than okay! I found you!" he glows, grabbing your hands excitedly. You giggle, squeezing his hands gently. He quickly pulls his hands away to wraps his arms around you. The team seems to understand what has happened, and they watch quietly. Some gush and aw, some pretend to gag, some cry...

"I did that! I brought her to her soulmate!" (f/n) cheers quietly to Ennoshita.

"I'm Nishinoya Yuu! Your soulmate!" Nishinoya announces as he slightly pulls away from the hug. His excited, amber eyes are so bright they light your own.

"(L/N) (Y/N). Nice to finally find you!"

Maybe worrying about who your soulmate would be was a waste of time. This didn't seem like it would be bad at all.
