Well, most m-preg I've witnessed is with c-section, which I suppose kind of lessens the overall WTF effect.. xD
But this does seem like a plausible explanation none the less.
I mean, being pregnant is a lot like an extended period.. With hormonal changes, pains and everything.
WE WANT TO SEE THEM SUFFER!!
Another explanation is probably to be found in the portrayal of homosexual characters as it is done by most (fan)girls. Even though they apparently like the man-on-man one of the men is usually a lot more girlish and always bottoms. The top is handsome and someone the girl would want to be with. The bottom is cute and girlish, so you can identify with him. (Without feeling threatened; it's a guy after all)
But since we identify so much with the bottom, we cannot help but feel that he should also be able to bear child.. First and foremost because childbirth is beautiful: It's a new life, and it's cute and cuddly and makes for lots of fluff. (And we identify with him and WE sunconsciously wants to give birth)
This, I would say, is the more probable and less negative explanation. The (fan)girls are simply deceiving themselves, thinking they like man-on-man action, while in reality they are almost always imagining themselves in the place of the bottom - Ultimately, though subconsciously, turning him into a girl.
The phenomena of m-pregnancy was born from this, I believe.
And yes, yaoi is my guilty pleasure. But I know that it has little to do with "real" homosexuals: Suggesting such a thing is offending to all; especially the homosexuals.
After all, most yaoi is set in a dreamworld where usually none of the sidecharacters have any kind of reaction to their sexuality at all. It isn't a socially realistic take on the hardships of gay lovers or anything like that;
It's just (fan)girls' fluffy fantasy.
