Description Started to make landscape studies again since my gallery mostly contains characters.. And I want to evolve in all areas.

These took me about 1Β½hrs each to paint. And there will be more studies to come

Enjoy!

The landscapes you've been doing lately have been awsome. I was just wondering if you could remember what brushes you used?
I've been trying to do a few landscapes myself but they've been pretty bad so far.

Hi
I have to say, that I fall in love with your landscapes. It looks so easy, just a few lines and it looks amazing. Sometimes I try landscapes, but I don't feel satisfied with them, so I always delete it. How often do you draw them ? I think...like a practice.

I think you have a good made a good solid start with these two images. You have suggested plenty of detail and your brush work is quite fluid which is something i'm trying to master myself. There's also good use of colour in these so far. Maybe with the bottom image you could change the lighting to suggest late afternoon sunlight, then you could add warmer colours to suggest where the light is hitting the surface and it will add a nice contrast to the more shaded rocky area on the right.

good stuff!

I would love to know how to achieve these types of results, every time I do landscapes I always find I over blend or I use too soft colours and the image looks flat.

Noukah In reply to Khaidu [2009-12-14 13:43:19 +0000 UTC]

Yes it sure is supertricky and I still have to learn tons of stuff here too!
Two things you can think about, though, to avoid a landscape looking flat, is to think that the background is more desaturated than the foreground. And the foreground has more contrast as well, especially darker shadows and crispier highlights.

To check this, you can create a saturation layer on top of all the layers, and pull down the saturation to 0%. This way you can check from time to time how your piece looks like when it's black and white, and then it's far easier to see if it's flat or not
