Oooh, where to begin? Firstly, I love the contrast in the image. The darks and lights work really well together, and they transition very well. Second, the detail on those teefers and those horns and that eye! Beautiful! Third, the fact that it's in watercolor. I love to play with watercolor but I can never seem to get anything other than gradients to work for me. Working watercolor into fine details is a concept that blows my mind. And when other artists actually do it, I get a teensy bit envious!

I didn't realize you could get such an illumination effect with colored pencils. I use Prismacolors, but they still have the white pocked, usual colored pencil texture.

It is possible to achieve if you know how to create illuminating effect once you know how colours and light work. I use high end Polychromos and Luminance pencil brands for blending quality but not for colour. Prismacolor are more vibrant than those I use, but the colours pop out actually if you use toned colours in right way. I would like to recommend a book that is about Light & Colour Theory.Β
