I watched Catching Fire today and it was brilliant. Jena Malone especially was stunning as Johanna…she was the perfect mix of malicious, tough, loyal, and…ultimately, human.
I imagine that at one point when no one else is looking, Johanna slips into the jabberjay forest. She strains and strains her ears, hoping for the sound of her family's voices. Even if the voices are in pain, Johanna wants to hear them. She misses them. She was responsible for their executions, and she knows it. But all the same…she misses them. So she waits, and listens, and hopes.
