The fountain to remember the Jewish people of Rottenburg was made in 2016. An explanatory text shows that Jewish people had been living in the town of Rottenburg in southwest Germany for hundreds of years since the Middle Ages. They lived and worked there although there had been two other waves of persecution even before the worst during the Nazi regime. From 1348 to 1349 there was a pogrom against the Jewish population as well as in 1476.
Although it is very good that this memorial can now be seen in Rottenburg I think it is rather late that the town has placed it there.
Everywhere in Germany it started about 25 years ago that there has been a growing awareness to deal with Germany's not so glorious but cruel and violent history.
People tend to conveniently "forget" what was bad and don't want to deal with it anymore. But there comes a time where you have to confront the inevitable truth.
