You know, I had a similar idea, where the Man of Steel flies to New York to help. stumbling across the Superior Spider-Man, which amounts to Superman having a massive gut-feeling that something is wrong with Peter despite his being a complete new person/version from an entirely new Earth inside the Multiverse.
