Description Walking around the church Saint-Georges.

The Sanctuaire Saint-Georges is one of the churches of the town of Lyon, located in the whole of qualified districts of Vieux Lyon. It depends on the Primatiale parish.

Having given its name to the surrounding district, it was built by the architect Pierre Bossan at the 19th century and is of style Néogothique. It does not have a notable architectural characteristic. It is located between the district of Forty and the Midsummer's Day district. It occupies the old site of the commandery of the Knights of Malta, and near the Place Benoit-Crisp, opening on the quay pointing out the existence until the 19th century of the Port Sablet, and the Bertras place.

Closed down between the end of the year 1970 and 1989, Saint-Georges was entrusted by the cardinal Albert Decourtray to the sacerdotal Fraternité Saint-Pierre pursuant to Motu landlord Ecclesia Dei which grants the practice of the liturgical books of 1962, in Latin. Since October 2006, Saint-Georges is not entrusted any more to this fraternity. August 25th, 2007, the Barbarin cardinal signs the incardination of the three priests serving this church.

August 31st, 2007, following the renovation work of the outside of the church and the contiguous places, the inauguration took place in the presence of the cardinal Barbarin and of the senator-mayor of Lyon Gerard Collomb. [accroding to: www.speedylook.com/Church_Saint-Georges_(Lyon).html ]
