Description
"Duck and cover! This family knows what to do just as your own family should. They know that even a thin cloth helps protect them. Even a newspaper can save you from a bad burn. But the most important thing of all is to duck and cover yourself, especially where your clothes do not cover you. No matter where we live in the city or the country, we must be ready all of the time for the atomic bomb."
This is the ever infamous Bert the Turtle from the 1951 civil defense social guidance film: Duck and Cover. I always found it fairly humorous how the 1950s always tried to use happy-go-lucky type cartoon characters to inform younger audiences on the dangers of the Cold War. It's like: "Hey kids, your going to die in a massive fireball like the rest of us, so here a cartoon character that will make you smile!"
