Your line work is so clean, especially for someone fairly new to digital art!
I can definitely tell that you're trying out different techniques, I always love that Disney cell shaded vibe, and I'll need to try that gem trick here soon!
As for rendering, I'd recommend just trying out different brushes and seeing what suits your style. Some are easier to use than others for sure. I personally find a lot of value in not shading, because you can emphasize the linework and colors, the overall character design.
