Description
That's my way to start Dinovember, I know day 1 was yesterday and that in day 1 you draw an Allosaurus, and what's better to get started with than a WWD remastered Coelophysis bauri.
Coelophysis bauri (Hollow form)-Cope, 1889
Diet: Carnivore, mainly Piscivore.
Size: 2.8-3 metres long & 30 kg.
Time Period: Carnian to Norian of the Triassic (235-208.5 Mya).
Region/Known location: USA, New Mexico and Arizona.
Enemies/Rivals: Poposaurus gracilis (4 metres long), Postosuchus kirkipatricki (up to 5 metres long) & Smilosuchus gregorii (7 metres long).
Coelophysis one of the first dinosaurs ever walked the earth. Its bipedal stance from two legs that supported its body from underneath as opposed to sticking out to the sides, smaller arms and head mounted on an 'S curved' neck give it the distinctive theropod look. Coelophysis also had sharp recurved teeth that were serrated on the front and back edges, making them perfect for slicing. So this small theropod with a length of hardly 3 metres was one of the theropods' ancestors. During it's time earth was a giant super-continent named Pangea. Coelophysis and the other early dinosaurs manged to survive thanks to their speed and survival skeels. For many years humanity thought that Coelophysis was a cannibal dinosaur because of the remains of a smaller skeleton of a creature inside of Coelophysis' stomach. But we now know that this skeleton belongs to a small crocodylomorph so Coelophysis is ''Innocent". Coelophysis was mainly a piscivore which made it avoid meetings with Triassic's apex predators and as a result it finally survived. It's an extrordinary creature and is one of my favourites Triassic creatures.
When I first saw Coelophysis on TV, I was about 6 years old, it was on WWD Episode 1, New Blood. I really enjoyed the way the documentary showed them to us, cunning, fast, really clever and with a great survival instinct. Because I really loved WWD's original Coelophysis' design that's why I kept the coloration.
In the original show it's body color may be more greenish but to me it looked like brown.
