Description By June of 1957, the Chicago Aurora and Elgin passenger service was on it's last legs. Cessation of service east of Desplaines Ave., Forest Park, IL into Chicago in 1953 due to the Eisenhower Expressway brought a great loss of riders to the Roarin' Elgin. In the last week of service, wood car 36 leads a train out of the Forest Park transfer terminal with the Chicago Transit Authority.

Less than a week later, passenger service would be suspended, at 12:15 PM, July 3, 1957. Passengers who rode the CA&E to work that morning would have to find other ways home that night. Forest Park became the location of riots, as CTA trains continued to bring full loads of passengers, but there were no CA&E trains to meet them. Over 2000 Passengers were eventually stranded that afternoon.

On a happier note, car 36 was one of 18 CA&E cars preserved in museums, and enjoys a happy retirement at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, IL
