'Mamushi' Interceptor-Fighters from the 327th Air Squadron fly over the Uuhn Uplands on Phernin in support of Operation 'Eternal Vigilance'.

Built around a bespoke weapon system, the 'Mamushi' is a simple and straightforward all-weather interceptor fielded primarily by the Outer Systems Alliance (OSA) and exported in small numbers to the New Prophecy of Yeria (NPoY) and available in quantity on the open market. That bespoke weapon system is a single extra-extended range pulse laser that lines up well with the plane's role as an interceptor and general air-to-air combatant. This is also a single-mount version of the laser system found on the 'Mangudai' BattleMech, thus extending spare-part and maintenance similarities across the two platforms. Mounted in a center-line pod between the engines, it is complemented by a small internal ordinance bay and a rear-facing laser anti-missile system.

Past that the 'Mamushi' is designed to simply get there and get there fast. While it is reasonably maneuverable, pilots tend to rely on the reach and accuracy of their primary to quickly take out enemy aircraft before getting out just as quick. That said, they are very fast and the OSA also uses them as eyes and ears for patrolling the oftentimes-vast stretches of near-empty wilderness that dominate most of the planets in the Alliance. No plans are yet forthcoming to produce a 'veritech' variant - stop asking.
