Description For NationStates; Modeled in DoGa with custom parts and some good ol' fashioned manual labor.

----

The OSA's 'Tapani'-Type is a monster of a rig. Ten meters wide and nearly thirty from prongs to pulley when fully deployed, it is the workhorse of the OSA's Combat Engineering Units. A heavy-duty fusion plant gives it plenty of 'grunt' with an after-market effects kit adding a nice deep 'chuuuff' on start-up. It is both tracked and wheeled with six large foamed 'road wheels' riding on top of a flexible belt with reinforcing plates; this allows it to switch to the road wheels for increased speed on paved or hard-packed surfaces. Because it is a combat engineering vehicle it is heavily armored - mounting the same amount of protection as the OSA's 'Titan'-Type Super-Heavy Hover Tank.

For engineering work, it mounts a large fully-adjustable dozer blade up front, an articulated 'A-Frame' crane on the back, and two extendable crane arms in the middle. These are fed by two heavy-duty cable winches, one in the middle and another at the back. These are augmented by a number of fixed triangles, two open racks on either side of the top deck, and a cherry-picker type deck on the top of the A-frame; a very-well stocked tool chest can be found in the crew cabin. All of these are not enough to stop CETs in the field from making extensive modifications; pintle mounts for light and heavy machine guns are common, or fully-enclosed top decks, additional stowage, etc.

The command deck itself is quite nice with a fully enclosed and electronic cockpit for two, a mini-mini-kitchen, and three folding bunks for extended field operations. The primary cabin access is from underneath and what was designed as exceptional ground clearance is often repurposed into additional stowage with the exceptional case of a crew turning the underside of their rig into a small traveling bazaar.

As might be expected of the OSA and of a combat engineering vehicle, the 'Tapani'-Type is 'sorta' armed; A large turret on the rear deck is explicitly meant for launched drones, high-precision demolition munitions, and the like but the launch cells also conform to the OSA's medium-range missile standards. Four five-tube grenade launchers are again meant for utility rounds such as colored smoke but most will also carry a fine selection of anti-personnel rounds as well. Two rotated turret mounts are again meant for utility purposes - this one mounts two side-scanning ground-penetrating radar for mine detection and clearance - but they can also mount anything from high-cycle accelerators to additional missile launchers with little effort.

The 'Tapani'-Type is available through OSAMI for outside sales and there is a small civilian market as well, with the paramilitary-grade systems making it suitable for work in hostile environments.

It looks like I'm going to have to research this technology some more!
