Description Beelzebufo ampinga was a large frog that lived during the Late Cretaceous of what is now Madagascar. It reached a size of about 40 cm, which is larger than any living frog. The animal has been described in 2008 by Evans, Jones and Krause and received quite an extensive media coverage, dubbed as the "frog from hell" that fed on baby dinosaurs. The one shown here is eating an unidentified maniraptoran chick. Phylogenetical analysis has shown that it was related to nowadays south american Horned Frogs (Ceratophryidae).

Gimme gimme chicken tendies,
Be they crispy or from Wendys.
Spend my hard-earned good-boy points,
on Kid's Meal ball pit burger joints.
Mummy lifts me to the car,
To find me tendies near and far.
Enjoy my tasty tendie treats,
in comfy big boy booster seats.
McDonald's, Hardee's, Popeye's, Cane's,
But of my tendies none remains.

She tries to make me take a nappy,
But sleeping doesn't make me happy.
Tendies are the only food,
That puts me in the napping mood.
I'll scream and shout and make a fuss,
I'll scratch, I'll bite, I'll even cuss!
Tendies are my heart's desire,
Fueled by raging, hungry fire.
Mummy sobs and wails and cries,
But tears aren't tendies, nugs or fries.

My good-boy points were fairly earned,
To buy the tendies that I've yearned.
But there's no tendies on my plate!
Did mummy think that I'd just ate?
"TENDIES TENDIES GET THEM NOW,
YOU FAT, UNGRATEFUL, SLUGGISH SOW!"
I screech while hurling into her eyes,
My foul-smell bowel-dwelling diaper surprise.
For she who is un-pooped on is she who remembers:
Never forget my chicken tenders.

Really the rule of not changing scientific names has to be changed, I mean why keep definitions like dinosaurs (dinavians, anyone)

Beelzebufo - the most evil amphibian since Hypnotoad!
I remember one photoshop with it in the backgorund ( the pic that can be found everywhere ) and Guanlong running from it as if that frog was truely gigantic.
Atleast the Media is way less annoying regarding this than they are regarding that overgrown rat...

NTamura In reply to MugenSeiRyuu [2009-12-23 20:57:11 +0000 UTC]

But Beelzebufo can't possibly have hunted Guanlong, they lived on separate continents and different times. Not sure it was the most evil amphibian. They were pretty big ones during the Carboniferous, Permian and Triassic periods...

MugenSeiRyuu In reply to NTamura [2009-12-23 23:15:31 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I know. Also would have been too big, but tell that the people who photoshopped their pics together...
[link]

Yes, I would say that there were bigger and more dangerous ones. Most likely also more evil, but none of them are called "Devil Frog".

Horned frogs are a subfamily, not a family proper.
...
Also, I've been toying with the idea of reconstructing Beelzy as resembling a Budgett's frog.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NTamura In reply to avancna [2008-03-14 15:35:05 +0000 UTC]

A subfamily of Leptodactylidae? Is there a general consensus about it? This site
[link]
and this one
[link]
still list them as a family proper.
Beelzy as a giant Budgett's frog, that would be cool.

That's what they say at Wikipedia.

Well, that's life... That's how the dinosaurs got really extinct, their offsprings being eaten by giant frogs, such as Beezelbufo, and giant mammals, such as Repenomanus...and of course supercrocs feeding on the adults !
