I am *massively* unhappy with this one. This is what happens when one attempts to do a color study and cannot, in fact, color very well. Spectacular. I am only posting it because I wanted to show what Lady and Church look like.

So, rather than talking about the art of it ... which I would rather not do ... I'll talk about what's going on here.

To look over the territory claimed by the re-building Portland, sentries are sent out to strategic locations to watch for people coming and going. One of these places is Vista House. The man called Church and his ward Lady were sent there to watch the horizon.

Church came to town a week or two after the bombing. He's not sure who he is, but the shirt he was wearing had a patch that read "Church" so that had to be his name, he figured. Something told him he'd find people if he went North along the West Coast, and so he did, picking up weapons and supplies along the way. He wasn't in the city long before he ran into Lady.

The woman known as Lady has no proper known name. No one is really sure if she can talk, because she never does. Until she started following Church around, she spent the better part of her time rooting through the abandoned houses and shops for things to take. She's especially fond of jewelry and other shiny objects. Her very favorite being a ring with a large pink diamond that she found in the opulent part of town. She saw Church one day in the midst of ransacking a bead store and has followed him around ever since.

Church, for his part, seems to like her company and almost dotes on his silent companion as an uncle would a favored niece. It's clear something horrible has happened to her. It's evident by the fact that she's horribly scarred and missing the last finger on each hand, as well as a few toe digits on her left foot. Some speculate she was in the wrong place at the wrong time when the bombs were dropped. Church remains unconvinced of that. What he does know is that she's not fond of music, is an excellent marksman when she applies herself, and is terrible at braiding hair. She also has an aversion to The Judge, and will only spare the older woman a steely glare before removing herself from the room. No one but Lady, it seems, knows what that's about.

Chruch, on the other hand, can speak and does. Frequently. He just has no idea who he is, why he traveled North or why the shape of a huge cross was burned into his back. So long as no one slaps it very hard he's fine and will sometimes forget it's there. He can be loud, rude and what some would consider arrogant or egotistical, but he's made himself useful and is kind to Lady. That's all they need to know.

Together, Church and Lady have keep raiders out of the valley and helped weary travelers find their way to a new home. Their post overlooks the road Scott, Mark and Reg will take to get to Portland.
