many years ago (I think I was in middle school? I was a different person back then o_O) when the international Chantilly firework contest called Les Nuits de feu was still a thing, my dad would obtain us tickets for it (it was every two years and he had a discount for some reason).
And it was VERY popular. Like, there were so many people going to see it that every single parking space in the city was taken long before we arrived, so we had to park very far and walk a lot to get to the park where you could see the fireworks and then to go back to the car once the show was over.
Well one year my dad, my brother, his friend and myself got a bit lost trying to get back to the car.
Remember : it was a firework contest. Meaning it had to take place after sundown. And the whole thing lasted a while. It like was 2 or 3am when we left the park. And the night was dark as fuck.
My dad was like "I got this, I know a shortcut." Never ever trust a dad when they say they know a shortcut. It's a lie. They don't actually know what they're doing or where we're going either.
At some point we somehow ended up in the woods. The trees were actually denser than in your picture. They were forming a tunnel around us as though to trap us. And it was pitch black saved for our flashlight. The tree tunnel seemed to go on forever 'cause it was too dark to see the end.
It felt really surreal, like we'd been transported into a horror movie. I remember pointing out that "if a werewolf attacked us right now I wouldn't even be surprised."
Though, as you can already guess since I'm here to tell the tale, we survived and found the car eventually. Or maybe we didn't and I've been a ghost the whole time. There's no way you can be sure

I remember hanging out in the woods by a rugby pitch during bonfire night,
it felt like playing a World War 2 video game, with the darkness and explosion in the distance. And for my teenage mind, that was a lot of fun.
