Before Teletubbies came to be the show that we know it as today, Laa-Laa (along with Tinky-Winky Dipsy and Po) had different forms. Both of these forms of the yellow teletubby stem from images found on the Teletubbies Fanon Wiki, and now, both of them are drawn and inflated together, looking a lot like their ball~ Here's some info and theories I have for them~

Proto Laa-Laa (not canon):
Way early in the show's development, Nikki Smedley (the actress behind Laa-Laa) tried on an early costume of Laa-Laa that the studio behind the show had made for testing purposes. The costume was CLEARLY in it's beta phase, as it was divided into multiple segments making it resemble some kind of animatronic with claws. It also didn't had it's proper color scheme yet either, with a noticeable skin colored stripe going around the middle body, making it look all rough and gritty, instead of huggable and colorful. And that's without talking about Laa-Laa's face, which was just a black void with eyes and a mouth. So I just had to include this test version of Laa-Laa due to how cursed and creepy she looked (because Halloween). ZeoWorks, take notes. Despite how cursed it looked, this scary form of Laa-Laa would eventually evolve into the OTHER form of Laa-Laa in this picture~

Naked Laa-Laa (canon):
Later in the show's development, Laa-Laa came around looking much more like the Laa-Laa we know and love, with ONE major difference~ She didn't have her tummy screen. So my theory is that the screens are not part of a teletubby's body at all, which actually makes sense when you start to think about the way they move in the show. The screens are made of flexible material that the teletubbies wear as clothes, which allows them to bend back at 220° and bend forth at 30°. It's also possible that their antennae have their own bodily system where radiowaves hit it and travel down a teletubby's body, normally getting cut off when they reach the tummy. But with their screens, a teletubby is able to display and amplify whatever transmission tries to broadcast. So it's very likely that Laa-Laa could live without her screen, which is good news for anyone who loves bellybuttons~
