Description More ideas for climates-the top would be thin aired, crisp, and shadowy fog year round. The bottom is a bit humid, very warm, and much like a swamp with areas of soft grass and brightly colored flowers.

The top may have taken around an hour, probably more...I was fooling around a lot with what to do after setting the 'mountains' in.

Bottom around 30 min. or so.

if you have the time? Do you?? Draw/grey scale an undercoat layer, colour it on another layer?, then shading and lighting??Β

No, I usually start out with muted cold tones (such as blues, blue-greens, blue-violets which are used for shadows in most cases), and work up my color by painting over it. Β The most contrasted parts of colors and lighting/highlights do go last in a lot of my processes. Β I don't think I've ever went through a drawing using another layer for color and the layer below as a grayscale, although I am sure there are lots of artists that use the overlay/color mode technique. Β  Β For me, using less layers means it's easier to paint over, useful for lazy people like me. Β XD

Yeh i use about 3 layers if i'm using a scan/drawing (I know what you mean). Try for more traditional? Thank you very much for sharing! I won't use grey

As always, nice speedpaints. I like how gray-ish the first picture looks.

I must say the bottom one is my favorite, namely because of the mushrooms.

Do you paint your speedpaintings according to reference photos or is the most of them from your head and you are using photos just to ensure that the thing that you paint seem real enough? It seem to be the second case to me. Beautiful work.

Yeah, it was around half an hour. I had to skim through it because I was getting tired. XD Woodlands are fairly fast paced fortunately.

Akadafeathers In reply to NukeRooster [2012-05-17 22:57:30 +0000 UTC]

Wow! I guess I gotta keep practicing, all my speed-paints on average are like 2 hours. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NukeRooster In reply to Akadafeathers [2012-05-18 00:27:27 +0000 UTC]

Two hours isn't bad at all. To help cut time and just get the basics I zoom out and use canvases that aren't very large. When I zoom out-I see the whole canvas at a 'distance' on the screen-it's much easier to block out shapes and get your basic perspective than to be up close at 100%, the file size you see on this deviation is the original size. Most detail is done at 66% or less. I only zoom in if I'm detailing-and there's not much detail in either.

Of course, some speedpainters who are very fast may not use big canvases at all-just small study thumbnails to get a basic idea. 500x1000px is my default size for most of my speeds-yet my speed ranges depending on my mood, inspiration and motivation. But you can make it bigger or smaller depending on what kind of finished product you want.

Love the bottom one the flowers add a nice touch and make it seem less scary

Can't wait to see you stream in the future watching you working on these and other art is a privilege in its own ^^

NukeRooster In reply to Avalon-shadeslayer [2012-05-17 22:00:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I need to set aside a stream day when I know I'll be free from distractions, and thank you-the flowers were a 'last minute addon.' I'm glad they suit and contrast well against the rich greens.

They play nicely with the shrooms and swampy/hidden secret look of the forest :3

I should try speed painting at some point but i have no clue what my hands would create :3

You should make a calendar with all your speed paints or something since they are epic.
