Description
Kelp Forest Mermaid (Sirena laminariales)
Overview: Plays vital role in kelp forest ecosystem by regularly terrorizing kelp-eating shellfish. Warm-blooded mermaid reminiscent of a sea mammal. Will be offended if you compare it to a Selkie.
Habitat: Kelp forests primarily. They are a territorial species, but they will stray from their chosen hunting grounds to hunt down an escaped mussel or sea urchin when necessary.
Diet: Clams, sea urchins, starfish, and other helpless invertebrates.
Danger Level: Low, unless you're a clam.
Sightings: Uncommon--They are scared of humans and will stay out of sight as best they can, so it is rare to encounter one.
Additional Notes: Keeping the shellfish population in check is a dirty job, but someone's got to do it.
