Warden, tea and corpses.

…I did this entirely by hand, as per usual. Pencils, inks, colors, highlights. I had to color correct it a bit in photoshop, because I unfortunately don’t have a scanner and the digicam snaps I take don’t have proper lighting.

Even with a couple color filters to fix it, this snapshot totally doesn’t show how vivid and rich the layers of color are, and I put A LOT on there, in MANY layers. This piece became sort of a guinea-pig for testing some materials that I’d been thinking of adding to my usual art-supply arsenal.

I used as follows: Staedler F pencil, black sharpie fineliner/ultrafineliner, Faber Castel Pitt Pen brush-tip Warm Grey, Artmarker Graphic design permanent markers (various colors), Zinc white Gouache, Liquitex heavy pigment acrylic Zinc white, Waterproof ink Opaque white… Several coats of Krylon in between each layer, finishing with a triple coat (I wanted this one to be super vinyl-shiny looking!)

…I’m pretty happy with it. I love how busy it is. You have NO IDEA how fucking fun it was for me drawing the Superjail buildings in the background! I wasn’t going to add them at first because I figured they’d be a pain in the neck and I wouldn’t be able to do them very accurately/lay them out in an adequately Superjailian manner without any prior practice, but they came out looking great the first time!

The best thing about this pic was when I was waiting for a dinner table at a restaurant with my family and I had taken this out to work on in the lobby. Some older lady came up and goes “Oh my! You’re very talented at drawing, let me see, what is that…. er..?” And I’m just: “It’s the Warden, having tea on a pile of corpses in Superjail.” Her response?

“Oh you goth kids these days.”
