Nicely caught Squire
Saw a cull of them,on Countryfile. It's said because of ticks, but if sheep & deer numbers were reduced there wouldn't be so many ticks, and for that reason I feel it's more down to the fact that the Hares eat the Heather

I think you could be right with that. I came away from spending a couple of hours with them very happy. They are really special animals, hopefully they will get protection from us in the future. I'm really not a big fan of grouse shooting either. Lot of birds of prey are persecuted up here due to that industry, hen harriers being one of them.

Hen Harriers are suffering greatly, and have been for some time. Here's something that came through the other dayΒ raptorpolitics.org.uk/2018/01/…

Wow! Thats absolutely shocking. Who cares how many species suffer as long as they line their pockets. Really annoys me when they come out with the "our actions help this or that species" Like that is their intention, I'm sure nature would manage without us.

When the Wildlife & Countryside came about, a policeman, in Brighton back in the '80s, asked me if I'd give a talk on the Act (WCA) to the police at both B'ton & Lewes. At the time I had just picked up a dead Vixen and a yearling dog fox, the Vixen was lactating. the officer had seen me putting them into a bin bag. He called me over to the car and asked me what I was about. So I told him I was helping the RSPCA do research into the health of foxes and keeping an eye out for rabies, and I was going to take them to the Boothe Museum, where they would have autopsies done. All this was done in the pouring rain, and he told me to get in the car & he'd drive me there. At the museum, we talked some more, and dates were arranged for both B'ton & Lewes, which is the Headquarters of Sussex Police. From there, what they set up became the NWCUΒ www.nwcu.police.uk/ It's well worth keeping an eye on, and knowing you can contact them if you ever see anything untoward happening.

Thaks for sharing that Will, interesting story as well. Its just a shame so few of these people get prosecuted. Soemone is getting done for accidentally shooting a buzzard here atm but it is rare.

He can't hide behind ignorance, and there's a major difference between a Buzzard & a Pheasant. It's NO accident, he just used it as an excuse. He should also have his licence revoked.
