Description I needed some basic flying animation for one of the dragons (wyvern?) from Skyrim and this is what I ended up with.  It turned out sorta decent for never having done a creature like this before.

Animated in Source Filmmaker

Shame all the wyverns in Skyrim wouldn't actually be able to fly with those wings.

Great work with the weight painting! Did you use a spline IK for the wings?

Nutrafin In reply to KieDough [2015-02-16 23:05:42 +0000 UTC]

I had nothing to do with the weight paints and stuff.  Theres a whole bunch of models that someone ported to SFM that had all of the bones and stuff already on them.
Unfortunately theres no IK on most custom models, so gotta do it the hard FK way.

Holy cow! I couldn't imagine getting something that smoothly animated in SFM without an IK rig on top of it all!

Man, this makes my first dragon flying animation look horrible as balls.

Considering how many bones those fuckers have, I'd say you did pretty fucking great. Looks hella fluid.

Reminds me of a Highland Ravager from Inquisition. Well... Pretty much any dragon from Dragon Age, as the quality design is really good, You should work on the next Dragon Age title, if they ever make a new one, lol.

Nicely done! Do you mean you created this in Flash, or you used a different program to create it and just used a Flash format to upload it?

Nutrafin In reply to Stamps [2015-02-16 16:05:19 +0000 UTC]

Animated in Source Filmmaker.  Just the video is flash encoded.  I've never uploaded one to DA before and didnt know if I had to have some special settings in flash or what to work.

I just didnt want a .gif that was 300 megs or so

Yeah, that totally makes sense; a gif would be way too huge for this.

looks great!
hmmm does it do 2 wing beats before the cycle starts over?                    flap,  flap, cycle starts over, flap, flap, cycle starts over, repeat
its like fluid... I cant see where the cycle starts over...

I must restate what I said about it.... this is amazing for your first time doing this! or for anytime doing this really...

Nutrafin In reply to Alexander-Krozz [2015-02-16 16:03:53 +0000 UTC]

yeah, It's a base of 2 wing beats, but after I looped it a bunch, I tweaked some spots throughout the animation to tweak some spots individually so its not 100% same throughout, but for the most part its 2 wing beats.
