Description
This is the first illustration I've done for a series of people who kindly gave me their favorite bits of legend and myth.

The artist suggested to me the Polish legend, the Wawel Dragon. The legend takes place around the Wawel Castle, in Krakow, Poland, back yonder. What happens is a dragon mysteriously appears in the kingdom's lands one day and the people have trouble in attempting to get rid of the beast. The king sends the best men he has to do the job but they cannot do harm to the dragon because of its impenetrable hide. People from all around and outside the kingdom come to try their luck against the beast but none succeed, so the beast hence remains. Sometime after, a local shoemaker came up with a simple yet clever idea and approached the king with it; he proposed making a fake lamb and filled it with sulfur, pitch, and mustard seed. They set to work by laying out the trap and waiting until dawn, when the beast would awake and see what appeared to be a easy meal. The dragon gulped the lamb skin up and found itself increasingly growing thirsty. It went down to the Wistula river and drank it dry, until he burst with a "BANG".
