Wow, that must have taken ages
But it was worth the time obviously!

Yeah, a bit time consuming but it works. The T. Rex was worse as I went even smaller with the scales. Not sure I would go that small again for the whole animal.

texturing the sculpting wax was a bit of a pain, by the way.Β
I destroyed pretty much all my texture stamps in the process...
And feather shafts also wear down pretty quick.
I have to find a proper metal tool for this...

Hmm what did you use for a texture stamp? There may be some durable rubbers from one of the big mold rubber suppliers like smooth-in or polytek.

I used a piece of polyurethane foam, which gives a great scale texture.
But the wax is to hard and if heated up a bit, it sticks in the pores.
So not the best way to go. A metal tool would be the best choice,Β
because I could heat up the tool itself.

It seems metal is the best choice for wax. I still think exploring some rubber or resin for stamping could be an avenue worth exploring. At the very least, it would make creating the stamp a bit easier. I am not sure how to make a metal stamp. I'm hoping to move into a wax based clay in the future so, I am going to have a bit of a learning curve to contend with. Anyway, keep up the good work and keep us up to date on your progress.

Thanks for the advice! IΒ΄ll let you know, when I come up with something.
I made the first casting today and itΒ΄s not so bad actually. But I still have some problems
with the teeth, claws and finger tips, because of trapped air.Β
Maybe IΒ΄ll write a journal about the whole mold making and casting process next time

One thing you could so is either make or buy a pressure pot. The pot will force the resin into those voids. Pressure pots are quite expensive, but I have seen people make their own using paint pots. I'm considering making one. You are supposed to be able to make one for about US200$ rather than about $400 and up. You could also maybe try poring the resin in the voids before closing the molds and manipulating the resin with a tool to see if youΒ  can get it to settle into them. After that sets up close the mold and pour as usual. It's worth a try. One with you could do for the claws and fingers before molding would be to add vents to the tips. That would allow the resin to flow past the tip and into the vents. Then you can cut off the vents after casting. That would probably be excessive for the teeth though. Maybe you could poke some holes at the ends of the teeth in the mold to allow resin to flow in.Β

Yeah, a pressure pot will definitely be the next investment to make.
I also managed to get the resin into the teeth and claws with a wire.
And I coat the molds with baby powder before casting. It helps to prevent
air bubbles on the surface of the model.Β
I think IΒ΄ll be ready to upload first pictures in a few days.

Sweet! That's what I was thinking about with the wire. I have seen people use a pressure paint pot to make pressure casting pot. There is a store here in the states "Harbor Freight" that sells them for about a 100$USD Ironically I have seen the same one for sale at an art site for $199. That is a serious markup. Anyway, I look forward to seeing you castings in the future.
