Your Girafarig has beautiful eyes! It looks so happy!
Sorry to just plop this down here, butβ¦
There used to be a girl on Deviant Art who drew some kind of detailed and strange, but seriously awe-inspiring interpretations of Pokemon. She deactivated her account years ago. Every now and and then, I have a craving to see her Pokemon again, but they were all so different from anything I've seen that it's difficult to even try to think of words that could be used to search for them. Her Pokemon interpretations are so difficult to describe! When I looked at them, my first thoughts were, "What is that?!" and "That looks scaryβ¦" because of how unlike anything I can think they were, but after a second, or so, I could see that they were Pokemon and I could tell which Pokemon they were and that kind of realization felt profound and perspective-altering because of the starting-point feelings. Her Pokemon didn't look like regular drawings of Pokemon, or anime creatures, or ordinary fantasy creatures, or real-life animals, or robots, or sci-fi aliens, or plants. They kind of looked like demons, but not in a sense that you'd think of from hearing, "demon" and they didn't look like the demons you could find in ordinary art. I guess one way to describe her Pokemon would be something like the weirdness, protrusions and textures of seahorses, but covered in some kind ofβ¦ something, while looking at them zoomed in and having poor vision. Her Pokemon were extremely well-drawn on both technical and design standpoints becauseβ¦ well, I can't describe the technical portions; you'll have to take my word for it, but in terms of design, I could recognize what they were, so all of the most essential characteristics were still captured.Β You'd love this artist, by the way. Even though she was at least several years younger than me, she and her mom would go around saving animals and nursing them back to health on a regular basis, so when you told me stories about how you foster animals and how your mom scooped up a bloody bird she found on the street to get it medical care, I was reminded of this girl. (She lived in a rural area.)

The artwork you're describing has brought strange images to mind, and I'm not sure how accurate they are, but I'm very interested to see her work now, if you ever do find it! I think you will, eventually. The internet seems large, and easy to get lost in, especially when it comes to images, but I've noticed that things you forgot about, or possibly like you, can't forget and want to find again, tend to find YOU again, eventually. That happened for me with an artist named "PokeLai", who used to draw human girl versions of Pokemon, and I admired them when I first had internet way back in the day. I forgot all about him and his inspirational Pokemon arts, but then I found him again a few years ago, randomly, while hanging out on FurAffinity!
If you ever do come across her stuff again, share it with me! I'm very interested to see what you were trying to describe there!
Also, yeah, anyone who loves saving animals that way gets automatic cool points in my book.

I feel like you travel through the internet in a much more "closed circuit" kind of way than I do (you've even talked about not finding many mean people online! You also have fans who just send links & comments to you), so finding your gijinka on FurAffinity is more natural. There are so many Pokemon things (official art, the kind of fan art that everyone expects to find, etc.) and I have no key words with which to eliminate the regular stuff (even if I search for more serious kinds of styles of drawing Pokemon, I know I won't find this artist's drawings), so I highly doubt that I'll find it again. The closest experience to what you're describing that I've found are things like finding my SoNyeo ShiDae on YouTube and TV Tropes, but that was because YouTube's algorithm started understanding me better than I did myself (due to Google, YouTube was like, "Hey, I know you like SoShi, so watch this!" and I was like, "Meh, whatever, I don't know what that is, so I'll pass on it") and I look through the same pages of TV Tropes over and over in cycles. Also, SNSD is a hugely popular property, so there was a lot of material out.
Yeah, if I ever do find her work, I really want to show you, which was a big part of why I left you the comment. This girl's Pokemon drawings were amazing; they were like a dream in the way that merely describing certain kinds of dreams really don't capture the content of that dream.

Hey, know what I just noticed earlier this year while playing soul silver.... girafarig is girafarig backwards....... I feel stupid for not noticing it back when I was originally playing gold version back in 3rd(?) grade.

You know ... for most of the Pokemon games, I'm usually more ANNOYED than excited that they added even MORE Pokemon rather than giving us more interesting things to do with the old ones, or providing more ways to make one Rattata stand out from another, etc.
However, in each game there are always a few exceptions.
For whatever reason, in Pokemon GOLD, Girafarig was one of my favorite Pokemon.
I caught one as soon as I could and named him "PushMePullYou" (well, actually ... because of letter restrictions, it was more like "Pshmplu", but I knew what I meant)
It was my favorite pokemon on my team, along side a Pichu I named Gohan and raised to be level 100 without evolving him.
Yay for amusingly weird characters!

Hee, your pokemon art is a treat! It's fun to see one of the less-popular ones. This one's so bright and bouncy, I love it.
