Freya and Fratley from Final Fantasy IX, for the "100 Themes" challenge #1 - Introduction.***Spoilery description:***
This is Sir Fratley's first time meeting Freya...or so he thinks. We know that it isn't...but Freya is happy just to be with him, and is willing to start over again.
***End Spoilers***
OMG THIS TOOK FOREVER BUT I AM HAPPY WITH IT.
And for those unfamiliar with Final Fantasy IX, this is actually ACCURATE fanart from me -- I didn't turn them into rats, they are rats in the game! xD
I will not take this long for any of the other challenges, I hope. @_@

I guess it can appear that way, but they line up with the muzzle as they should, so it may be that I was using natural rats as my guide more than the official art would have been. xD

Actually looking at a natural rat, they're still a bit too low. They look perfect on Fratley, but with Freya the top of the eye is right at line with the top of the nose which just makes it look very uncanny.
With an actual rat, it should be right about where Fratley's are.

Oh! It might help to explain that her head is tilted towards us, too, which changes the perspective. xD

It really doesn't come across as that, her head and hat don't give off any indications of being tilted and just seem rather flat.

Thanks so much!!! This is a relatively old piece, so hopefully if I tried for something like that again, it won't look "off" anymore. Although I know I'd still be stumped by something like that helmet. xD
I remember a co-worker of mine (I have been doing art as a career for toy companies for 10 years now!) once told me that if you need to explain what you were going for with a piece of art, you didn't do it well enough, so the fact that I had to explain the angle of her head means I didn't do it well enough. xD HOPEFULLY I've grown since this piece!

Looking at this, I can definately feel the heartbreak that Freya had to go through right there. it's so tragic to be able to find someone you lost after searching for a long time only to find out that they do not remember you. This really makes uderstand what she meant by, "To be forgotten is worse then death."
Because in a way, being forgotten makes you feel like they don't love you anymore, which can be worse then finding out that they're already dead, in my opinion, because atleast you know they're waiting for you on the other side if they just died, but being forgotten... you'll have to start all over again, and it might not turn out right the second time.
This is definately a very tragic part of the game, and i really want to praise Freya taking it all in WITH the loss of Burmecia and most of her people.

my old party was Zidane, Dagger, Vivi, Amurant (rather balanced if you ask me) though for this new playthru im considereing Zidane, Eiko, Vivi, Freya (disc 2 Freya is with Steiner and Beatrix right now)

The ONLY problem I have with Freya is that if you use "Jump", she sometimes doesn't come back down for the whole rest of the battle... x3
But I love Dragoons, I always have one in my party if I can!!

I just wanna try something new, Freya's jump I think is good if I think my other three party members can sustain for the 1-3 turns she's up there. Speaking off makes me wonder HOW does she stay up there that long? really tall tree/rockface or what? o0

FF9 needs a prequel. Something to reveal the pasts of Freya, Fratley, and Zidane's affair's with Tantalus.
It would be badass to have Iron-tail in your party.
