xD That's probably because (this is my theory anyway), they were asking Nomura to make too many sequels to a game that initially wasn't planned to have sequels. He and the rest of the staff have had to essentially make up and entire universe based on practically nothing, so weird characters like Xion, or really really stupid concepts like 9,000 Soras and Ansems, start to pop up.
There's nothing wrong with finding her character to be out of place or anything like that - there is a LOT in the Kingdom Hearts universe that is just plain...well, dumb, some of it. But I do like Xion, personally, even if I agree that her storyline is pretty much 100% BS (everything after game 1 is BS to me, though). xD

I just hope everything regarding Master Xehanort will end with the third game...I don't like the villains who just won't stay defeated. It really makes each victory kind of shallow because then you realize...hey, this is not the end no time to relax now. I do think Recoded could have been done without since it doesn't really do much I don't think, but I do like DDD.
Well Xion may be an out of place character with a BS storyline, but she does make a cute kitty and seems easy enough to change into other animal shapes.

XP In my own way, I used to dislike her myself, but in a way...after seeing the Walkthrough Gameplay for the game before I got it for Christmas this year...you start to feel sorry for her towards the end of the story of sorts
