Description

Petals of glass and garlands of gold,

haven't you heard this story be told?

Grapes in the vineyards to goblets do pour

white juices that glitter and spill to the floor.

Gingham-check dress, garnets behold.

Glamour and Glory, the girl and the goat!

--------------------------------

I got the chance to do little g for , a charity artbook project.

EDIT: Just uploaded the full version. I was rather disappointed that the printed version was much, much, much too red... but I should have test-printed myself, so I'll take that as a lesson learned. XD It looks much better on screen.

This is actually the fourth time I tried to draw the entry. My first idea didn't work out and my second idea was too close to an idea of one of the two people doing letter V. My third attempt was with the girl-and-goat concept but the colors wouldn't go together, so I finally pulled this together in the final three days or so, with some inspiration from . She uses a lot of organized chaos and screentone patterns in her art and I thought that I would try it out. Some of the elements in my work don't stand out as well as hers because of my habit with muted colors and a tendency to merge all the layers without thinking.

The idea behind this story is a strange fantasy that you can really find at the bottom of a wineglass. Surrounded by expensive, beautiful things, people still drink to drown their sorrows. The result is the sort of dream that comes out of longing for a simpler, more innocent existence. Caught on the edge between complexity and simplicity, this is the ensuing chaos that occurs. Some elements of the fantasy are based off of Bacchus/Dionysus (Roman/Greek God of grapes and wine-making). What I wanted to convey most was the dichotomy between a surreal happiness derived from a distorted memory of childhood (the girl) and the somber, heavy-horned burden of carrying that distortion, yet fully embracing it as the ideal mode (the goat).

Unfortunately, I can only offer you guys a preview of the image. Find out about preordering information by watching the group page. Thank you.

The below are all of the artbook's participating artists (in order).

If you don't mind me asking how long did it take you to do this?  The amount of detail in this is simply breath taking!

I like this piece! The goat looks very realistic, at least way more realistic than I could ever hope to draw! Very nice!

~  Awwww, how lovely! The girl and goat are so adorable, and it fits the theme of 'little g' perfectly! And I absolutely love the little poem to coincide! It reminds me very much of the book, "Animalia" by Graeme Base, in which each letter of the alphabet was drawn in gloriously rich oil painting-like colors with so many intricate details and a fun description like you have here. Ahhh, so much nostalgia - and I love goats too, so seeing this joyous little drawing at the beginning of my day made me smile so very much!

I'm sorry to hear that it printed out with much too red though. I know how that feels! I have this exact same problem with getting my digital art to print out correctly. Why, printers, why!?

XD;;;; you really ought to see 's beautiful, beautiful kids.
One Gone, One New GoatSo for the past several weeks I’ve been occupied by my beautiful goats. My handsome Dexter died of urinary calculi. It was a very sad week. I found out how to treat it a bit too late and I’m too poor to pay for vet bills so we put him down. He was only a year old.

If you’re new to goats and don’t quite know what you’re doing, here’s a little tip that I’ve learned a little too late: If you have bucks, or wether goats (castrated males), and you’re feeding them grain, you NEED to give them ammonium chloride with their feed otherwise they’ll get clogged and won’t be able to pee. They will die (unless you want to pay expensive vet bills to do an operation on them, saving their lives).
More info about it: https://fiascofarm.com/goats/stones.htm
Dexter had such an awesome personality. He will be missed.
What sucks is that the lady who gave him and his mom to me (and gave me the wrong caring directions) said she’d like t  Goat CoatsI bought my goats some coats. It's cold here! Burr!

The mother, the one I milk at home, wears the purple and her kid wears the blue. He's the same size as her and he STILL drinks her milk when they're together! Bah HUMBUG! x( Her milk is MINE! Stop that! *air slap-slaps him*
It snowed today and my brothers new house has terrible insulation! I type now wearing my outside-wear; Mittens and everything. Very hard to type sometimes...
Couldn't go to work today either because of the snow...
Anyway, just thought I'd share the silly pictures I took of the goats. They made me laugh so much when I first tried putting them on them. They were scared as heck of the coats and ran away from me... They love them now. Very much so.
They look like they're wearing little capes. hehe

Yay! We get to see the full picture now~
I think it looks lovely~ Beautiful, random conglomeration of details.
Sorry to hear that the printed version was much too red, but I'm sure I'd enjoy it none-the-less, so there!
Anyway, that's either one giant goat, or that's a small lady... Maybe I only think that because I raise tiny ones.

She's happy because she's riding a goat. o vo~ When I was 3 years old or so, my grandparents or my mom sometimes took me to a park near where I lived in Hangzhou, China. There were these cute little goats pulling cute little carts there and I'd get to ride one. That was super fun for me. o wo I have a really weird soft spot for goats.

Thank you for stopping by.
