I stayed up late again :'DI don't actually have any relevant text for this illustration this time since I'm still fleshing out story things but I suppose I should at least introduce Caiyan and Xueqing~
Caiyan is a celestial maiden who was born of a barn swallow's egg after it was blessed -- she classifies as a divine beast called huoniao (firebird). Her specialty is music, especially the guqin. Despite her humble species, she possess a high grade of fire. She ran away from the divine realms once to pursue a master swordsman after becoming moved by his swordsmanship. She studied with him for six years in the mortal realms and would have studied longer, but a cursed sword forced her to end the life of the swordsman by her own hands.
Xueqing ( Darkavey 's OC ) is a smith who was born with heavenly eyes, able to see more than others and understand what he sees. Due to crossing paths with one of the Dragon Kings and showing how to repair their trident, Xueqing was given the Dragon King's blessing in the form of scales on his arms, which allowed him to become strong enough to take over his father's work and become a craftsman. He accidentally created the cursed blade Azure Spring as a result of being unable to control both of his blessings at the same time.
As for how they ended up working together here... I'll share that story maybe another time~

Most of my work is heavily influenced by Renaissance art
If you go through my gallery and look at the full pieces, there's a lot of pieces with strong Renaissance undertones and references

Oh yay! It's certainly a fresh take on it that I quite enjoy~! Most appealing. Sadly, I was never fond of most older art styles and even now I struggled to find things outside of modern cartoons or anime to enjoy. That said, I have recently fallen for Mucha, and artnouveau in general, which admittedly is quite recent as well, but it's at least opened my eyes to being able to appreciate a wider range than I did previously. Paintings in general were always tricky for me to enjoy as I grew up in an area known for a famous painter (and one that my brother liked to shit on, until recently as well--so that shaped a lot) and always kinda got, frankly, bored with hearing people talk about it? Same with Gold Rush era history for it being local. I think it just has a lot to do with feeling like those sort of things were pushed onto me rather than finding them on my own and being able to appreciate them naturally.
And this got rambly and kinda off-topic quickly, sorry about that haha!

Mm, from what I'm aware it's usually an architectural pattern? Did a quick search and found some that I liked, but I'm not sure if I've got the right thing haha. I did enjoy what I saw though, but I'm a pattern nut at this point. Interesting textures and all haha.

I think I tend to draw with the intention of interacting with the audience and wanting to pull feelings and reactions out of them, so that sort of desire gets expressed naturally . w.;;;

oh, that's mostly by looking at other people's art and imagining what they would need to do in order to reach their finished product, and usually by imagining it, I can come with some ideas to reverse engineer their results
btw painting is usually considered 2D XD;;;
unless if you're painting straight on 3D models

I ought to try that out more. I rely too much on tutorials, i should figure out how to reverse engineer, since most detailed art work i find dont show us their step by step process

LOL you're not wrong XD though her selfish attitude isn't toward this sword but toward the cursed sword, Azure Spring. She gets upset if anyone else tries to draw it, even though her own limit for it is usually under 2 minutes.

I actually don't feel that the story is terribly unique XD; but I think what will make it or break it is how I intend to execute on the pre-existing tropes and also how I subvert the expectations of those tropes when needed. It's a long road ; v;
