Description Chameleon found in the middle of the road (red-sand road going out from Frans Indongo Lodge, Namibia)...and my brother's hand.
This little guy quickly lost his bright green colouring, but I managed to photograph him while he still hadn't changed to that dull green he soon had.

NOTE: I changed the file, I think this version is much better

this is so cool! I love the effect with the blurry background and the cool designed chamileon is standing out. the only thing I noticed is that his head kind of blends in with the blurred background.

thank you
i guess that's because his head has less dark patterns like the rest of his body...

What a cute little veiled chameleon....glad u got him off the road!! Silly little alien type creature lol

Nyeleti In reply to InspiraSean [2011-01-15 15:58:56 +0000 UTC]

hehe - yes they are odd creatures!
so you think its a veiled chameleon? because i researched chameleon species on the internet, but wasn't entirely sure what this guy is... don't veiled chameleon have a more extended 'back of the head' type thing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

InspiraSean In reply to Nyeleti [2011-01-15 19:05:42 +0000 UTC]

Yea...but they get bigger and more distinct as they get older....this guy still looks pretty young. I could be wrong though? But i've had a couple veiled chameleons as pets and if this one isnt one it I dont know what kind it would be. Also its color pattern resembles a veiled...they use that green color a lot and they dont have real vivid color changes and dont change patterns as often as say a panther chameleon for example....panther's are intense!! lol
Surprised this guy was on the road and let u pick him up though without turning a dark purple/greyish/blackish colour cause thats normally what happens when they are stressed for any reason.

no no - i think you're right in saying it is a young veiled chameleon.
We also expected him to turn into a darkish colour - when my family and I lived in Uganda (like 15yrs ago) we had plenty of chameleons in our gardern (they also had littles ones!so cute). My brother and I would take them into the house they would turn brownish-greyish...(we always put them back where we found them obviously )
but i don't know, this guy turned a very dull green and practically lost his 'stripes'.

oooh...I wanna go to Uganda! I lived in Nigeria for awhile but I hated it lol I think Uganda would be much nicer. My mom also moved to Ghana but I wasnt able to visit at that time but she has lots of awesome photos from there....I think she didnt want me to go there because I would never want to leave lol

You lived in Nigeria?! seriously? I was in Abuja from 1997-2000, i went to AISA.
I was really young when we were in Uganda, but for what I remember - yes it was beuatiful.
After Nigeria we were in Malawi for 4 years and its the country I miss the most!

InspiraSean In reply to Nyeleti [2011-01-15 22:47:35 +0000 UTC]

Yea....We lived just outside Lagos on V.I. (Victoria Island) How was Abuja?? And wow, Malawi is not a place you here about often enough, I take your word for it though since it seems although youve been all over Africa! lol

Abuja...full of 4 lane roads and big hotels! ALso 'extreme wether' - very very dry and hot in the dry season, could barely see 500m during Harmattan season and during the rainy season, well it didn't just rain -it poured all the time everytime... !!
We went to Lagos a couple of times (mainly to get flights going back home) and what I remember most is the total caos on the roads and the intense humidity.
I have been lucky to see a number of African countries - and the beauty of it is that they are all very different and unforgettable

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyeleti In reply to AkumaChou [2011-01-18 09:18:04 +0000 UTC]

yes we were lucky my brother saw him!
so you think its a flap neck chameleon and not a veiled chameleon?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AkumaChou In reply to Nyeleti [2011-01-18 16:30:47 +0000 UTC]

Well, from this angle it's a little hard to tell. His casque is a little small for a Veiled Chameleon and it looks like he may have some flaps near the back too. His legs are pretty chunky which makes me lean towards Veiled but Veileds usually show more than 2 shades of green (sometimes even yellow and teal). Overall I'd think Flapneck but it's hard to say for 100% sure. Either way, he looks to be in great shape for a wild chameleon. Seems to be a luck little guy

AWESOME....glad you having fun with your travels then! Abuja sounds completly different then Lagos and you described it PERECTLY...CHAOTIC!! lol and theres guns EVERYWHERE, never seen so many damn guns in my life!! And being the white albino lookin kind of guy I am...I stood out like a sore thumb and I swear EVERYONE was looking at me like a potential target lol....maybe im slightly paranoid but at least thats how I felt!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyeleti In reply to InspiraSean [2011-01-15 23:17:23 +0000 UTC]

They probably were looking at you (more than other white ppl) just because it probably isn't everyday there that one sees a very very fair skinned person - but not as a target!!
But i know what you mean about the standing out tho I'm italian but also just the opposite of what you visualize an italian to look like. I constantly, to this day and when in Italy (talking Italian) get asked if I'm Irish/british/scandinavian/etc etc. its funny to see ppl's faces when i tell them i'm 100% from italy

yes, italy is absolutely worth visiting
but i'm in Milan now (i study here) so for now this is where home is...
You have a beautiful gallery... if you wanted to get your photos noticed more, you could try joining some photography groups and submitting them there...but maybe there's a reason you haven't done so already...?

Ive tried..not too hard lol, but I did try. A few of them got accepted and a few were rejected, oh well....Im sure I will get more views eventually, right now im still am learning so no worries, hopefully I improve my techniques soon and people notice but until that happens all I can do is keep practicing! lol Thanks for the advice and love your gallery as well, keep up the good work and have fun out there in Milan!!

I like this. I'm not sure what it is, but I like it. Perhaps it is because the hand is like a tree branch or something...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyeleti In reply to Norble [2011-01-15 09:27:09 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Yeah I see that - the hand is sort of like a branch... but I also like how the chameleon's colours are very similar to the background colours (the darker and brighter greens i mean).

Wow! I've never seen such a nice shot of a chameleon before -- I really love seeing the patterns of the transitional colors. How lucky that you came along to photograph and relocate him!

Nyeleti In reply to AnneCat [2011-01-14 21:26:15 +0000 UTC]

my brother saw him from the car and slamed on the brakes!
but yes, we were very lucky! Another car also stopped to see what we were doing standing out of our car and taking pictures, so very quickly there were like 10 people around this tiny guy! We left him with these other guys and told them that it would be best it they put him on a tree branch closeby
