Description The finished product for an assignment in my Experimental Printmaking class. The materials used were recycled Manila Folders, Oil-Based Ink, Duct Tape, and a scrapped door skin from the nearby campus wood shop. The overall size ranges from 5'5" x 5'5" (It's about my height) and it is light to carry. Each "pixel" is an origami box folded from the cut Manila Folders (which was a pain, by the way, since there is just below 100 of such boxes).

My inspiration came from frustration and desperation of trying to look for a subject to use for my project (we were required to take a 2-D object and make it 3-D). Basically, I just Google-Imaged random things to do and I fell upon Minecraft and Pixel Art. With the skills of origami that I've had since grade school, I figured that I would go big and make something.

It was difficult to choose which kind of art subjects to use, ranging from Mario to Link, to Megaman to Pokemon. I decided to settle for Pokemon because I knew that it would be a lot more fun to construct, especially since it's still a huge franchise worldwide. Due to time constraints, I chose one with the least amount of work to create, which was Caterpie with a total of 132 pixels. However, I had not imagined the actual size of how much space the boxes would take up, which is the reason why the Bug Pokemon is cut off at the bottom.

I have directed the viewers to look at this piece through a lens from either their phone or their camera for best results.

The entire process took roughly two whole days to make. In the end, I love how this piece turned out and it has helped me think about what my tastes in art include. I figure that I may do more like these in the future.
