I have always seen my animal masks (except for ones based on actual characters etc) as a kind of representation of Mother Nature, or as her warriors. Many of them have a dark sense to them. These beings are not evil in any way, they just judge you, us. They are champions and spirits of the forest. We don't notice them when they are one with nature, slumbering. But the humans destruction of nature is waking them up, disrupting them, and they are not pleased with us.

On the forehead of the fox is a symbol reminiscent of the Icelandic sigil Ægishjálmur, meaning Helm of Awe, or Helm of Terror (or translated directly it would be "Shield-helm"). It was most probably used - painted on the forehead or between the eyes - as a symbol for protection in battle.

Materials: Papier maché/paper clay, glass eyes, acrylic paints, clear matte varnish, adjustable straps.
