This is an old image I've been working on-and-off for a couple of years now. I'm to the point where I'm calling it finished. Comments and crits are always welcome!*EDIT:*
After receiving some excellent crits from members on the Pixelbrush forums, I flip-flopped the sky so that the ominous looking green sky was in the upper right-hand corner. This not only strengthened the composition, it changed the mood to one more of hope, which I was going for.

That's very cute! I definitely think that it looks finished. I like the colors and the children's storybook feel that comes from this. The rainbow is very nicely rendered, and I like that your colors and details become more muted the more you go off into the background; it really makes the foreground pop.

I love the colors on this one, Karyn. It's got such a fond, melancholy vibe to it. You REALLY should think about doing a kids' book, and self-publish? Or....look for a publisher?

Thanks, Cris! :hugs: I'm trying to work toward that goal. I'm not sure where to start. I know I need to get a few more children's portfolio pieces together if I want to approach publishers & agents.
I outlined a kids short story based on my husband's crazy cat, Maxine (from Kitty Wars fame!). I should go dig that up.

I really really like the girl in this illustration. One thing that you may want to look at is the house in the background. I hate drawing buildings myself, and it takes my forever. I think that you've got the perspective down, but maybe adding some texture to the house to make it have a little more character would be nice, even if it's just a simple thing like adding horizontal lines to indicate vinyl siding.
Other than that though, good job!

The grasses and rocks are wonderful. I really like the transitions in the landscape, Karyn. The little girl has a wonderfully charming exuberance.

Thanks, keight. I redrew those foreground grasses several times before they started to look right. It wasn't until I added the rocks that it finally worked.
