Description The Monkey King, using a combination of Prismacolor on Bristol and a photoshop wash coloring. The Monkey King has always been one of my favorite stories in the past. Monkey King was much like Lord of the Rings in China.

Was inspired to draw this after watching The Monkey King cartoon short for the opening of the Olympics in Beijing.

Hurray for Chinese!!!
You know, a number of things in 2008 had to do with the Chinese.
-Beijing Olympics
-The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
-

...I'm out of ideas.

Anyone?

This...awesome. It's kinda like the digital art I did to celebrate "Alakazam the Great" in *Raph1966 's gallery. Same story but Hollywood took ALOT of poetic license. I note that the circlet in many of the Monkey King arts is the same....as it is in Space Kateer's Jesse Dart. Funny...
Prismacolor? My brand. I've never worked with Bristol. Is it good? And how does it scan? (I'm having problems scanning pencil art.)

Looks brilliant, I definitely need to try some color adjustment in PS whenever I do traditional. Would definitely offset the whole "scanner killed my picture" quality it usually has.

WOW! the finer features on the Monkey king's face and the expression in his eyes really accent the majestic look to this piece! I have always loved your work and you rarely do primates.! I think its yet another wonderful piece by a wonderful person!

Wow, this is fantastic! I don't normally see you to coloring outside the computer, and normally inking in real media, but the use of color in this is captivating and so alive.

He looks more natural than you usually see. Great job, no obvious eastern or western features, just primate ones.
looks like he's plotting something even as he prepares to eat -or throw- that apple.

Oh, I really like it. The colors have a warm effect and the shadings are well done. Did you imagined the character by your own or did you have a modell for orientation to design the ape?
