I'm always wondering how you achieve those stunningly perfect textures..are these really pencil drawings? : O
they're so unbelievable clean. May I ask what the size of this piece is?
The subject is brilliant as usual, I love how you interpret all the week days.
Can't wait to see the coloured version! C:

Yep, they are pencil drawings. What helps create the texture is that, while I'm drawing, I use a kneaded eraser to soften the graphite. Nearly every time I put down some pencil marks, I also dab them lightly with a kneaded eraser. Through doing this, I erase away the surface of the graphite and leave what has been imprinted in the paper... the result is that the drawing kind of becomes a part of the paper, and thus takes on the paper's texture (if that makes sense). The paper I use is called Arches Watercolor Hotpress 140 pd. It has a nice texture to it and, because it's so durable, can handle a lot of layers of graphite without things smearing easily.

The size of the piece is 17 by 8.5 inches.

And thank you so much!

Wow, thank you so much for telling me your secrets! It makes perfectly sense the way you explained it and I can imagine what a time consuming process this kind of 'drawing' is. It's definitely worth the time and effort though but I also think it takes quite a while to take this technique onto such a sophisticated level. It's such a nice trademark of your work.

Hahah, yes, it's kind of an OCD technique - but also really, really meditative and relaxing.
