Name: Baek Hyo Jee
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Nationality: English-Korean
Race: Human
ID#: 329
Occupation: Student
Rank: 1
Title: The Three of Fitful Swords
Department: Special Cases
Weapon(s):
Retractable Dual Blades: Short double blades that can fold in the center, allowing easy transport of weapons (Hyo Jee carries them in sheaths around her forearms). Actual blade parts are strong enough, but are light and don't inflict heavy damage (the joint in the middle causes blades to snap if too much pressure/force is inflicted).
Sharp-edged Throwing Cards: Just like the name implies, these are sub weapons used as a back up or for longer-ranged attacks. They are sharp enough to cut through most things (not metals, stones, or thick shrubbery, though), but need to be sharpened often and the user needs to have enough arm strength to chuck 'em through. (Hyo Jee has a limited amount and replacing them takes a while.)
Personality: | Calm | Quiet | Somewhat Shy | Logical | Efficient | Slightly Arrogant | Surprisingly Sensitive |
Hyo Jee is more of a stay-in-the-back character, who doesn't aim to take the spotlight. However, she often imagines herself being the best and at the top, even if it might be far from reality. Her leadership skills are rather questionable, but she does try if put in a tight situation. Hyo Jee tends to dress in a way that stands out, and likes to keep up a "cool-and-collected" appearance, although she really isn't very cool and collected (she just looks like it //shot) She won't approach strangers, and only does so when she has no other choice. While a little bit anti-social, Hyo Jee will keep a conversation going (or at least try to) if someone else talks to her first. She's actually quite desperate for attention/companionship, and depending on the person, she'll get lonely if they leave her alone for a while, even mumbling to herself at times. Hyo Jee enjoys having nothing to do/no pressure to do something, and will attempt to finish up any work she has as soon as possible. She knows herself very well, and understands that there are things she can or can't do, and will try to keep herself out of stress and danger.

History: "Well, the world goes on whether I'm here or not..."
Hyo Jee had always been able to see spirits. Ever since birth. However, her life was problematic even before the spirits started to bother her. Born into a broken family surviving in King's City, her mother left when Hyo Jee was young, leaving her in the care of her father, who created and fixed androids for a living. Hyo Jee's father took decent care of her and her slightly older half-brother (same father, different mother) and tried his best to be there for them, even while overridden with work. She had a normal early childhood, playing often with her brother and friends. Then, at the age of 6, she noticed that those blurry, shapeless blobs at the corner of her eyes started to sharpen and focus.
At first, she dismissed the spirits, as they were still hard to see, and didn't bother her. Soon, though, it became harder and harder to tell which blobs were "fake" versus reality. She would accidently call out to a few, causing her friends to take strange looks at her talking to an unseen person. For another 3 years, Hyo Jee learned to ignore the spirits, and was left unfazed, just believing that the people or animals she'd see were figments of her imagination. Around her 10th birthday was when she had the first contact with a spirit. Suddenly, her "figments of imagination" were physically touching her, knocking down her things, and generally scaring the lights out of the girl. Crying and screaming, Hyo Jee ran to her father and told him about the strange creatures trying to attack her. As soon as she finished, she had expected her logical and unshakable father to tell her that it was a dream, or laugh it off, proving it wasn't real with scientific facts. But when Hyo Jee told her story, her father's expression became increasingly distressed, giving away to a serious, grave face which told her that this was much more important than she'd first thought. "Just pretend they don't exist," her father had said, explaining what spirits were. After that, they never talked about the spirits to each other again. The only other person who'd somewhat believed Hyo Jee was her brother, and they'd often talk about what to do if the "scary blobs" attacked her once more.
And so it goes. Hyo Jee took her father's advice and pretended the spirits didn't exist. As the family grew older, it became harder for the father to support his children, and so Hyo Jee's brother started to work in their father's career. With less family time, the bond between the girl and her brother weakened, and she started to rely more on her friends, clinging to them constantly. Age 15 was the year when everything fell apart. Her father discovered an encrypted message on one of the androids he was repairing- a message that pleaded for help as the government was after someone's life. Intrigued, Hyo Jee's father delved too deep into government affairs, and suffered consequences for it.
On a normal, everyday morning, government officials suddenly burst through the door, arresting the father and taking him away- never to be seen again. The siblings looked on confused, as the officers searched the house thoroughly, but seemingly not finding anything. The officials left in the late afternoon, also leaving no questioned answered. They promised to return Hyo Jee's father the next day, and told the siblings to relax and get some sleep. However, that night, Hyo Jee was woken up by her frantic brother, who was shouting something about a hidden bomb- right before that bomb exploded.
Her brother pushed her down and the explosion knocked Hyo Jee unconcious untill the morning. When she regained her senses, she realized that where her house once stood was only rubble and her brother- he was gone, disappeared- the only thing left of him a severed arm where he'd been standing the night before.
When she was discovered by some of the neighbors later, she was shipped off to the nearest hospital for treatment for her minor wounds and burns. After a few weeks of being hospitalized, Hyo Jee was surprised to find her mother waiting for her at the door at her dischargement. However, it seemed as if her mother had grudgingly taken her in, because she was the only close living relative to Hyo Jee. After living with her mother for a few, tense months, Hyo Jee decided to pursue the only thought in her mind for a while: what happened to her father and brother? Well, she knew that her brother was most likely dead. Her father too. But what was it that caused the government to take action on her life?
For the first time in years, Hyo Jee talked to a spirit. It was a frail-looking black raven with a peculiar blood-red beak. Since it seemed harmless, Hyo Jee decided to ask what it knew about the government. Shockingly, it knew quite a bit about the corrupt system, and then was when Hyo Jee realized how bad the government really was. Not totally trusting the spirit, Hyo Jee decided to investigate a little on her own. After about a year of research, she discovered that what the spirit had told her was true, and it was time to spread the word.
Just like that day when her father was taken, the same happened to Hyo Jee. She hadn't even started to tell anyone about the corrupt government, but somehow, they knew. As they handcuffed her and forced her out, screaming about spirits and corruption, Hyo Jee's mother didn't even blink an eye. Not saying a word, and just watching her daughter walk into most likely life in imprisonment. The last glimpse Hyo Jee saw of her mother, however, was horrifying; she was entangled in the wings of a giant, jet-black raven with a scarlet beak- one that was open with mocking laughter.
The next weeks went by fast. The government decided that Hyo Jee would stay at the prison "indefinetely" which basically meant "forever". She was thrown into a cell to waste away. About a month in, a tall, strange man who introduced himself as "Nier D'Artois" offered her a chance out- an organization called "NOCTIS".
Of course, Hyo Jee would have to be crazy not to accept. She was led to Leia, where she joined the Special Cases department, hoping for a chance to meet that raven again- and a chance to beat it up.
Extra Information:
= her mask isn't cloth- it's actually a hard metal-like material
= when on missions, she puts her braid into a half-bun (as shown in picture above)
= hates the heat, but gets cold easily
= depending on how cold it is, she'll wear a coat or cloak over her suit on missions
= is extremely cautious of any black birds and will attempt to attack one on sight
= is sensitive and will cry over sad movies and stories
= uses her blade sheaths as a sort of gauntlet to protect her lower arms
= constantly has her weapons on her somewhere
= her hair is really layered so only a small part of her hair is long (the braided part) everywhere else it's short
