Description Dunno about the title...

Spray paint, acrylic, collage, pens, a bit of plant and pencils and everything on hardboard... 69 x 95 cm
Wanted to do something, and this was something...
The bracketted bit of the title can be nothing but the Greenday bit of song... although that isn't really connected... intuititave titling...

Another piece where the meaning seemed to build out of the bits of stuff that made up the image, rather than the image being made of things to build up the idea...

Any thoughts/comments/criticisms?

twirls and shadows skitter now

across the lane and withered heathΒ

in the midst of less than real

or the sting of otherwise

oooo. Love this one too. (Green Day was my band way back in the day.) But the colors and patterns and just everything about this one is beautiful. It's feminine. But ... dangerous?

Thank yoou
Glad you like it, and get a similar feeling off it...
I think she feels powerfull, but the vulture, and the guy pruning the roots think (or just suggest) differently...

I think you should render up the figure a but more. I'd keep the drippy stuff at the bottom but maybe flesh our her hair and upper body some more. I looked over your gallery and really liked your figure drawings on maps. I work as a trucker and have been collecting maps from rest areas for a similar series of projects.

You have some great work. Keep it up.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about how to leave the figure... but in the end I think I like the etherial feel how it is... like she's not as real as she thinks... I think...

I love drawing on all kinds of things (as you may have noticed), but maps are one of the best, especially for drawing people...

I love this! It's a beautiful feeling when meaning builds as you go along.

yay!
I suppose its just the meanings that I encorporate as anyone looking at it would really... but seing them flow from me, and then interpreting them... kinda odd, but good

How about 'SHE Who Must Be Obeyed' (from H. Rider Haggard's novel She). The map and bird fit with that as well.

Aside from all that, well done. How large is it?

I don't know the book, but I kinda feel this is about her pereception of her own power, which is an illusion... (The roots are being trimmed by an anonimous man)...

it measures 69 x 96 cm

She is an old book, of type perhaps made most famous by Edgar Rice Burroughs (certainly he was by Haggard). Not an easy read, but you might some of the themes worth exploring. [link] [link]

It's big. I do wish I had space for something like this.

Does the film do the book any justice?

I've really been enjoying working big recently. Got an exhibition-thingy comming up in a fairly big space which I've got to fill all by myself

I found the book to be a bit verbose, so, as I recall, it does. It is a 1965 film however, though I think I'll watch it again.

Big is cool, especially when combining collage and paint. Good luck with the show.
