Description Describe yourself in 3 words, the sheet said.

How paradoxical: to fit an entire person, 206 bones, 32 teeth and infinite dreams and potential, a lifetime of stolen things – hearts and moments and laughter – into three words of black-on-white.

How can I explain that psychological fact, that we use past experience to perceive the future, in relation to my own hell on earth? "raised hand = fear", maybe, or "marriage turned sour"?

But then, I am more than this: more than what has been made of me. I am a person: thoughts run through my mind and collide with one another like motorcars on the grand prix circuit, as with any other: yet, I am not "normal". Unlike my peers, I am worthy of whispers, barely-disguised smirks.

There are in excess of a thousand words I could use: thoughtful, functioning, alive. Breathing, industrious, polite, underestimated.

But the only one carrying any weight is 'abused'.
