Very nice... ~leopardlady and I met some fantastic "armorers" at a Renaissance fair 2 years ago, that did a phenominal work. My friend modeled a piece and I snapped a photo of her in their leather armor.

I'm sorry, but as a female fighter (okay, I guess I can't call myself a real female fighter... amtgard isn't as intense as SCA) I can't stand pictures of women fighters in armor that isn't functional. Sure, guys find it arousing but IT'S NOT FUNCTIONAL! Women can look just as beautiful and MORE powerful when they are wearing funtional and semi-historically/culturally accurate armor.

Yes, yes, I know it's not mean to be funtional, it's just a form of entertainment.

I'm just cynical.

However, I commend you for taking the time to make the armor, even if I'm not a huge fan, it's much better than anything I can do.

We should most likley talk. Amusingly enough, this was originally created to be armor for an Amtgard off-shoot game.

There IS limited protection afforded by an outfit like this, however, the skirt is actually designed for the rough and tumble rigors while still protecting the wearer. So it's true, that aesthetics were a consideration. It IS only a single point of armor, though the joke is that it's +1 distractionary armor as she's less likely to be hit at all.

But the drag0n agrees completely with the assertion that fighting women geared 'appropriately' are quite stunning in all the right ways. Perhaps you'll come back to see the hard leather version of an outfit similar that's also high on functionality while balancing aesthetics...

Ridiculous that I didn't see your response sooner! Sorry for the delay.

The game is High Fantasy Society. Pretty high on RP, but there's still a firm contingent for the fighting...though legal shield bashing sounds kinda fun with the right group. This armor counts as 2 points. The not-pictured bracers and greaves reach up to the elbows and knees, respectively and provide pretty decent protection against the prickly scrub we play around. You're right that there are some basic design changes that would be more appropriate for more serious battlefield conditions, but the style-wise nod to Texas heat has never drawn a complaint.

I TOTALLY applaud your desire to win a tourney in an evening gown. Serve any 'boy' right who doesn't respect the skills of their opponent, regardless of gender. It'll be a real treat to see what your armor comes out like. It sounds pretty amazing. Keep me informed of your progress...and maybe put some of it up here for all to see! Best of luck with it!

Oh really? Does this amtgard off-shoot have a name? How many points was the armor worth in the end?
Ever heard of Dagger Air or Legacies? Dagger Air is like full contact amtgard (IE: sheild bashing is legal and even encouraged at times). Legacies is a more roleplay than fighting based LARP. I'm yet to try eager but they sound fun.

For the sake of debate, () I'm not sure the skirt would be the best choice for rough and tumble rigors. That poor girl would get her legs scratched up so badly in a woodland or rocky setting.
Lol, I know what you mean about +1 distraction armor, it's my goal to one day win a tourney in an evening gown. But with a model as pretty as that, I'm sure she could stop most fighting men in their tracks if she showed adequate fighting skill, even if she was fully clothed.

I'd love to see the hard leather version, do you have a link? In amtgard, the squire I serve under and I are planning to make some armor. We're going to make chainmail with this Japanese weave and then actually attach a gambison under the chainmail so they are one piece. On the back, between where my shoulder blades would be we're going to attach a leather plate with my heraldry tooled into it. It'll be my first big project.
Have you ever tooled designs into any of your leather work?

You captured the model and the character well. It appears we think along similar lines. Too much great fantasy art maybe?

We do appear to have similar tastes. The drag0n will take that as complimentary, having been a fan of yours for some time.

Must disagree with you about there being too much great fantasy art. ; ) Smartass aside, it IS true though that there are only so many influences for certain things. The drag0n's point here would be about great minds thinking alike...

The drag0n's had the same though on more than on occasion. Might be worth discussing the sorts of things that can be accomplished at a distance.
