Description

''From the unreachable high mountains of the forgotten land; in the distance, it can be seen a big curious humanoid figure. Some say that it’s just a bunch of big rocks, dirt and vegetation that form the impression of a figure, but there is a legend that says: It is a dead body of an ancient being, a proud giant that once fell in battle, and the feeling of failure and humiliation was so strong that it remains attached to it’s body making it imperishable for centuries; that now it’s part of nature itself’’.

Hi people!, it’s been a long time since I published something here, this is a landscape that I made bit by bit when I could, starting in the last year, and I finished it recently; there is a back meaning or symbolism in this, let me explain:

Some time ago, I really wanted to do something like this because, I wanted a way to express some mood or feeling that some people go through and it’s hard to explain in words but I’ll try. I was searching a simple word to define this and the only one I found its “empty”. Some people attach the word “empty” on people that they consider cold, that doesn’t show feelings, or that are very egocentric, but I see it in other way, an empty person for me is the one that has no goals or north, that feels discredited, life has beaten it and sees no hope in finding a way to get rid of the reason or problem that put this person in that position. I said those things because at some point in my life, I went through this, and its feels no good; for some reason I was in a position that made me felt like all the effort, hard work and dedication for achieving my dreams was all worthless, and any attempt to improve the situation will end in failure, I compare this feeling as if you were trapped in an immense cloud while you are walking and you cannot see anything, you don’t know where to go, and you keep advancing with fear of making a misstep and you don’t know if that cloud will dissipate someday.

So, thinking how to represent that feeling I visualized a chained man trapped in the bottom of a pit, that is so high that every attempt to climb it, to reach the way out, that attempt will end in failure or death, and the only thing he can do is see the light high up thinking if he will ever be free, but at the end I decided to represent this idea in the landscape above with the dead giant and here is why:

The giant was in the situation expressed previously, with the difference that he doesn’t overcome it and dies, that dead giant represent us when all our problems and fears beat us and we finally give up, the reason that the body of the giant cant decompose because the persistent feeling of failure, symbolizes us when we can’t get over some things in the past, whether failures or scars that still affect us, and finally; why a giant?. Some problems torment us so much that lead us to other issues like depression and anxiety,  in that difficult situations we ignore what we are capable of, maybe the solution is at hand but we don’t know how to reach it, or our self-confidence is so short that it prevent us to think positive, we can’t see the fact that we are losing a battle being a giant and no other weak creature.

I dedicate this picture to anyone who is living this or has already lived it, may it give some comfort in knowing that others have gone through this and hopefully overcome it.

Thanks for reading all of this long description and I hope you like the artwork. Maybe I’ll resume this idea in the future and make this story more complex.

Have a nice day all of you and thanks for all the support.

Glad you like it, sometimes I think it's really necesary add an explanation to an artwork it helps transmiting the idea.
