First thing I think is the eyes are super real in an anime way and the hair is so 3D! Nice job.

Thanks, I can't take credit for the eyes because the shape was from the reference I used but thank you very much for the compliment on the hair I really appreciate it. ^^

You're welcome! I always see her portrayed in mostly the same style, so it's nice to see an interesting style. Keep it up, I say!

I think this is a nice drawing but I think there are things that could be improved upon (if you don't want to read a rambly critique then just ignore this comment). For instance, from afar the coloring looks good but as I get closer I see some edges that need to be cleaned up. More specifically, the occasional white lining. I don't know how many layers you were using while coloring this picture but if you want to give it a cleaner, crisp finish then I'd suggest you go over the white edges. It implies that the coloring was done all in one layer on photoshop and that the blur tool was used on the edges, creating the white lining. Another suggestion is the color of the background. The background is a bit close to the color of her hair so it doesn't stand out as much as it could have. I don't know if that's what you were going for but it'd give the picture more "pop" if you chose a little more of a contrasting color. I hope this helps!

Haha! Thank you so much for writing that. It was actually purple, but I wanted the colour to have a theme, but then I realized that the picture popped out too much so I indeed did blur it. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll pay attention to that in the future. I actually used about 40-50 layers because I'm paranoid about making mistakes.

Oh my God! Hahaha I don't think you're using enough layers there! But in all seriousness, what could help is to have a base layer that's just a solid color to match the dominant color in the picture. That way if you run into the same incident then it'll be hidden better. But that's just me. I'm not much of an expert on photoshop or digital art in general but I find that it helps a ton, whether it is with digital or traditional painting.

Really?! I thought that I was using too much. I always have problems with cleaning up lines, but since this is only my 4th official digital art picture I've drawn, I'm sure with more practice it won't be a problem. Thanks a ton for the advice (:

I suppose the sarcasm about the number of layers didn't follow through My bad on that one! Maybe next time you can work from coloring the background up to the foreground (if that makes any sense). If you just put the background layer to normal and have the rest of the base color layers set to normal above it then the white shouldn't be an issue. Does that make sense? I'm not very good at being articulate when it comes to describing photoshop settings And no problem!

Oh! Haha, I'm not good at picking up sarcasm over the internet.
It's actually my first time using photoshop so I'm confused by the part that you said base colors set to normal. I put it as soft light, and if I put it as normal then colours would have been put onto the background. I wanted to change the colour of the background at places. I don't understand how people blend colours in photoshop either.

It might be a little confusing at first but it's something you'll pick up on overtime (heck just look at my photoshop fails from '08 ). I think if you play around on it long enough then you'll get the hang of it.

Have you ever used Corel Painter? I'm using Corel painter essentials 4 and Photoshop Elements 9, therefore I don't know which is better. I'm more used to using Corel though.

I've never used either. My photoshop is horrendously outdated and I usually do a majority of my drawings on paper first. Sorry that I can't help out there!
