Inoue Kaori Tanaka Junichi Yuuhi Yori Might Guy Houshi here is a bit like Hinata used to be. She is painfully shy and soft spoken, always feeling like she doesn't have anything useful to contribute to anything, and preferring to be by herself so she isn't a problem for anyone.
This isn't because of anything her parents have done so much as how Houshi herself interprets their opinions. Though her parents love her dearly, Houshi feels as though she has let them down. They are such strong ninja who worked so hard to get where they were, and they're stuck with a failure like her.
She admires her father in particular, and longs to be more like him, but because of her pessimistic attitude she doesn't think she can. She feels that she has let him down, even though Lee treasures her and tries constantly to help her improve. It is partly because of Lee trying to help her that Houshi feels she isn't good enough for him, even though that isn't Lee's intention at all.
She is more comfortable with her mother, but here too she thinks they are very different. Hinata has grown in confidence since childhood, and Houshi doesn't think her mother understands feeling weak-- even though the opposite is true.
With her (second) cousin, Hikake, things are even worse. Hikake is a genuis of gentle fist, like his father, and has been able to activate his eyes since he was a small child. Houshi is constantly comparing herself to him, and feels as though she doesn't measure up. She'll avoid Hikake when possible, though he has never figured out why.
....I *really* like her. I like her design and I like her personality. She's a good kid, just really too hard on herself. Sweet thing.

I really just wanna hug her. Her whole design is adorable and I like her personality to. That while she wants so badly to improve, she's pessimistic at the same time and that's her own challenge to overcome. I feel so bad for her and Lee and Hinata that everything is kinda misjudged. Like Lee wanting to help her. That doesn't mean he thinks she's weak just that he knows how good she can be and he wants to spend time with her and stuff. And Hinata understands feeling weak, especially in measure to someone else. She really seems like a sweet heart and I wonder if maybe her and Lee could bond over painting sometime or drawing rather than training.

And he's really not. Training is just how he was shown that someone wanted to help him and cared about him a lot so it's how he shows others. Especially when he knows they want to get better themselves. It's just a lot of misunderstandings and misinterpretations.
