The vastness of the ocean offers endless possibilities. So large, so powerful, so loud. The waves crashed over one another as a feeling of newfound freedom washed over her. For the first time since the accident, she felt free. Yes, she was paralyzed and unable to feel or move anything below her waist. Yes, she was still learning how to live life in a wheelchair, needing help at times with things such as dressing, bathing and going to the bathroom. Yes, she missed her old life when she could walk, run and move her legs on her own. But her old life was over. And now, sitting on the beach instead of in a hospital room, she realized this is her new life. Her brand new life. Her new beginning. One of endless possibilities. Free. She felt free again.
