EVENT MAP
the normal White Lions Map is available here
- the show's real world time-frame is set from arrivals on Wed 13th to departs on Monday 18th of July, although the deadline is a couple of months later. The week will start off with a few light summer showers for arrivals and the first morning, but will clear up to be bright and sunny - if a little windy - with some cute fluffy cloud cover and hazed contrails from Cotswold Airport - look to the bottom for an extra chunk of settings !
- entries for equestrian classes should be at least half body with at least some of the rider/handler showing, except for halter which can be just a headshot of the horse if you'd rather.
- backgrounds please! whether its photos/manips, fully painted or just block coloured scenery.
- you can enter as many horses as you like in all classes, just as long as the same horse doesnt enter a single class more than once youre free to do whatever - bring your whole stables if you want! specific training, extra images and roleplays are encouraged, and may get you extra points if youre in it for the long run!
- all breeds are welcome, but for magical breeds the no advantage rule applies, any level horse/rider can enter
- age limitations are 6yo+ for humans, 4yo+ for horses being ridden, and 6mo+ for in-hand
- no need to preregister but it'd be nice to know what youre interested in doing C:
- your submissions must contain at least a link to the show, a link to the horse, and the class youre entering
- the overall themes are History and Summer : interpret however you like
- again, youre encouraged to be as creative as you like here in terms of the artwork itself! if you wanna do an impressionist painting, a stained glass style cut out, or a cartoon strip - then go for it, it'll have as much chance as the rest of the entries in the show !
- an extra focus for this year is the setting and RP aspects to make it feel more REAL !! there are a few extra features and roleplay specific ideas floating around for human characters as well as fluffy ones if youre looking to flesh your stables out a little more then look out for these extra thingies !!
- just as a footnote its likely i'll be entering my own horses into a few events for the experience again, like leading the charge and showcasing ourselves, but they'll always place after the real entries in their classes.

there are three subsections this year; equestrian classes, fayre events, and the demonstration stage
simply; standard horse classes, non-horse classes, and a class all to itself!
EQUESTRIAN CLASSES
dressage
held in the outdoor arena
appropriate smart, modern tack for the horse, and formal dress for the rider - this doesnt have to mean the typical black jacket if you want to play with the theme a little more, just as long as its smart and not too busy or distracting!
picking music out might help with your score here too C:
cross country start & finish in thames head & through fathom's covert
level appropriate modern tack for the horse and protective gear for horse and rider, other clothing can be what is comfortable or summery! you can design or dress up themed jumps yourself as well, be as creative as you want!
i will smooch u if u do stonehenge jumps
show jumping
held in thames head
level appropriate modern tack for the horse, and sensible gear with a helmet for the rider - you can go smart or take it down to a polo or more casual outfit given the holiday atmosphere and weather. again, the theme obstacle thing applies, as long as it reasonably can be set up in what's normally a pasture field then go nuts!
smooches still on offer
working hunter flats held in the outdoor arena & jumps in circle arena
NEW for 2016
this class is comprised of a section on the flat and a course of 'natural' jumps - which section you choose to show is up to you, or you may also show both! tack should be plain and practical, with riders in tweed jackets, shirt & tie, plain boots are allowed for the jumping phase.
s m o o c h
"connections" halter held in circle arena
this theme is a little different from the others; show off what youre connected to! whether its cultural heritage or patriotism, a fave book or historical figure, or celebrating an event, dress up for it! the only rule is explain your costume choice in the comments, have fun!
if you want to include other companion animals to add to your entry then if the animal is involved in competitive RPG they can gain an honourary prize at the same placement as the horse
free for all driving held in circle arena
im dragging in all types of driving and harness work for this; show us what youre made of, if youre shires are pulling beer carts or youve got a chariot to charge or your harness racer to show off then youre welcome to join! if your horse is more suited to pulling or ploughing or other harness work then you may show them too!
multiple horses may be entered as teams for this class
FAYRE EVENTS
photography contestthis is one of those chunks of Realism i was talking about owo
there is a photography contest running throughout the event, where the best 10 snaps (extra images) from your human team of anything at the event are rewarded with a chub artwork from myself! just chuck me a link so i can add it to the runnings!
from the horses to the fayre, the inn to the house, the hacking party to the stables, whatever takes your fancy, its all game here !!
you also dont have to enter any of the other events to do this, you could go purely as a spectator!
prize distribution will depend on the turnout, so if 10+ people make an image there will be only one prize per user,
but if there are only 10 images those 10 images will earn a chub each regardless of user
all of the extra setting information beyond the weather and basic map is included at the bottom of this journal
- as is a way to get extra images for freeeeee keep readin folks !!
sheep dog trials held in circle arena
this is likely to be a liiiittle messy since im not personally involved in DARPG so please excuse me lmao
well would it really be a costwold show without some sheep related shenanigans? NOPE
this is an all-in one class show, with four basic elements;
fetching sheep from a distance, an away drive, separate the group as the judge asks, and moving the herd to a pen.
you may show whichever one takes your fancy!
only the dog needs to be shown, half to full body
our sheep are a small flock of 10 cotswold lions
fawnlings mini-show held in circle arena
this is a class specific to harpg fawnlings
this is in-hand show for your little deer unicorn friends!
they will be asked to stand nicely for the judges, and then trotted around the arena; you can choose which you draw - or if you want to do both !!
this is another opportunity for a bit of dressing up, you can go with the standard 'bare' fawnling in only a halter or bridle and smart jacket for handlers, OR jazz it up a little with whatever you feel like as long as its still practical
( theres nothing stopping your harpg fawnlings entering the other classes, but this is JUST for them )
historical showcase & demonstrations
held in circle arena
NEW for 2016
this one is another step or ten out of the box; everyone is invited to bring a historical discipline or display to our "stage", tell our audience aaaaall about it, and the best displays as voted by our visitors win the class placings!
this is an incredibly broad and experimental category, its pretty open to interpretation. whether its breed specific or something practiced in your stable/teams homeland, a historical recreation or a well versed tradition, teams or individuals, as long as its updated to be safe and humane we can accommodate for it! you're welcome to borrow some of our team as well, and any supporting animals like dogs would also be eligible for placings (just list them in your comment the same way you do your horse(s))
to enter this 'class', show us some of your demonstration, a montage or in the style of a photograph with your chosen speaker taking the stand, whatever you feel like doing, and give an explanation in your comment of what's happening; whether you make it a quick paragraph or a mini-essay is entirely up to you
here's some examples !!
it could be as simple as jousting with a little presentation explaining it all on the side, or a demonstration of mongolian mounted archery,
a walk-through on classical dressage, or a full-blown costumed tudor hunt scene complete with dogs or falconry birds. breed disciplines
for user created breeds count here too. a few ideas could fit into the driving category too, its up to you where you choose to put them
(or do re-runs for both) ........ if in doubt - ask away !!
more than one version of the same discipline is allowed so multiple stables could give us a joust display without any problems caused, but it would be nice to know what you're thinking about entering so theres a list for people to look over or be inspired by, along with a few of our own suggestions for you to pick at
>> list <<
extra image YCHs !!!
this is another one of those Very experimental bits i was saying about, baaaaasically i was thinking ive only done like ??? twooo stable to stable RPs in my 3 years or so of being active here - theres a lot implied but not a lot of actual - sooooooo
Free Art
im offering YCHs of horses AND their owners & canine companions out and about for the event; training, hanging out, going on the walk, doing normal things at the event as well as having the show entries. some of them will include my own characters, and some will be entirely blank slates to fill in : more will be added as i grab time to do them you and your friends are welcome to grab images together and roleplay around them - if you post it then let me copy a snippet and a link i'd love to see what you've been up to around the grounds !!
youre welcome to communicate outside of me as well to any extent whether its making your own images, or deciding with your friends to go in for the spaces on a YCH image for me to put you together in an image too
the one catch to it is you either have to have an entry image done or you MUST finish one so i havent given an image to someone who doesnt enter in the end
there will be some background places for spectators and dogs who dont have to enter an event to get a space
this YCH bank will be updated as i create more according to my free time ~

welcome party in the Lions House
this is just a casual kind of house party held in the common room / kitchen of the staff's house (dogs are allowed as well), no dress code whatsoever and feel free to be silly with costumes, bring board games, alcohol and messes, whatever you'd like to spice up the first official night of the event!
all of our staff will be attending - they live there after all !!
group ride to the ice cream parlour
this is surprisingly easy to set out as the ice cream parlour in question actually exists!
clearly with a little creative licence allowed, if we say our site is somewhere near the thames head and cotswold airport, this route would take us past ashton down (a private airport belonging to the gliding club), across the common and its stables & inns, through or around minchinhampton, and to winstones ice cream parlour (which looks out over the chalford valley and stroud)
here's a google maps link to the vague area im looking at
anyone can come along as long as your horse is fine with hacking on smaller roads, and your rider is skilled enough to ride - or you have another horse and rider pair to lead them. this is open to pony ride horses too ... see below :bademoticon: )
a lot of our staff will be along for the ride, pitted throughout the line wearing hi-vis
vests with WHITE LIONS printed on the back in black, here are our pairs;
Felix & Charlie | Janine & Alex | John & Sophie
Ode & Ruby | Sherlock & Nicole | Static & Tory
dinner party in the White Lions Inn
the closing bit to the whole shebang, set in our lovely traditional inn all set up for a long round the room table set up, slightly more smart than the welcome party but not super strict! a massive thanks to our catering team & own brewery
all of our staff will be attending, but they will also be cooking and serving
( indoor maps to be added )
notes on accommodation
for horses
the white lions stable block will be expanded to full capacity
14 stalls divided into their three components (indoor, covered run, uncovered run - covered with tent extension) = 42 spaces
if preferred, the barn pasture and barrowsfield can be adapted with temporary tent covers
there will also be some spaces to camp alongside your hoofed kids in roadway meadow
~
you can have warm-ups and extra training top ups in the covered arena and the trails / perimetre track when available !!
for puppies
while dogs are allowed in the lions house and inn, if preferred, the spare/store room in the house can be set up as a kennel room for your little four legged pals to sleep over in
for peoples
both the inn + and the spare rooms in the lions house are available
our lot & helping hands have kicked themselves out of their own rooms and squished into 4 of them, leaving 6 to spare in the lions house
the inn has 12 rooms in total, feel free to squish as many people into them as you like
if you'd rather camp, roadway meadow is available as a campsite, it has road access through the "main street" and as said above you may camp alongside your horses and dogs here too
~
extra parking has been granted to us by the council on the adjoining green patch.
the rest of the fayrehere's a quick jot-up of what else is in the grounds for the week;
PONY RIDES !!!
beep boop its the OTHER helping hoof bit !!!
this is mostly a bit of fun and another way to get art of your kiddos at the event AND to get the more pleasure or pet type beebs out and about in the world
option 1
they'll be a category in the YCH extra images !!
if you want to claim a YCH space for a pony as per usual method, said art will be made for you and that pon can add the helping hoof rosette to their awards ... BUT ...
option 2
... if you wanna offer up a pony or small horse using your own art, you'll get a chub of the horse in question as well as the rosette added to their collection !! said self-made art can also be submitted to the photography contest !
more info on how to grab YCH slots in the FAQ but either way its Art for You
~ the only requirement here is that the pon you choose is a safe & sensible pon ~
>> here are our glamorous assistants <<
there will be falconry & owl sancturary displays for the friday, saturday, and sunday
they will be showing;
harris hawk, common buzzard, northern goshawk, gyr falcon, peregrine falcon
tawny owl, barn owl, european eagle owl, snowy owl, little owl
there will be a small stage for live music all day every day
mostly softer indie rock, folk, celtic-influenced, & ambiance (electronic included)
craft, food crafts and food vendor stalls will be in the market area
the majority will be focusing on more natural material crafts such as woodwork and leather, sculpture and art, some fine metal work and crystals as well, with vegetarian food (& vegan food) in more prominence
if you need a bit of inspo try looking at the westonbirt treefest / festival of the tree
FAQ
feel free to ask questions!
Not 100% sure on the theme?
in fairness i buried this in the top info so thats been rectified now heh, its just two words; 'history' and 'summer', and theyre meant to be very broad so everyone can have Max Fun ! feel free to turn up in beach gear or a monks habit, chunks of fake castle for jumps or one covered in sunflowers, combine them if you'd like too
i'll add a bank of free to use jump designs if i get the time !!
Are non human ranches allowed to enter and participate in all events?
SURE why the hell not this is for fun after all
How would you apply for YCH places?
good point lol when ive posted them they'll get put in the bank here with an update, but to grab a spot if you've already got your image done or are absolutely sure you WILL enter, comment on that image submission. the entry here will note how many spaces there are left in a given image too, it'll be first come first served but please be fair about not getting too many slots for yourself
youre welcome to reserve for your friends if you organise that amongst yourselves too ~
Can we enter sidesaddle?
riding sidesaddle is permitted for dressage & for appropriate historical showcases
Can we wear traditional attire?
for the main horse classes, as long as its safe, humane, and adhering to the other class requirements, you're welcome to do what you like! this goes double for the halter and demonstrations entries which are FAR more lenient for those exact reasons, as long as it also complies with the safe and humane rules.
youre also welcome to show us what original tack looked like off of the horses involved.
Is there a limit to how many YCH images I can claim?
not technically but please try to be fair about it;
theyre for everyone to get stuck in with, and im not sure how many i can actually produce in the grand scheme of things, SO as a rule of thumb for now try to take max of one per category per horse. if it gets towards the end of the festival time limits and there are still spaces to be filled, then just go ahead
theres absolutely no limit on human or canine spectators though!
Can X species enter?
as long as it can be considered a direct equivalent to harpg horses, it can enter
(eg; fawnlings are a yes, tokotas are a no)
if theres enough interest for next year though i may consider adding toko / shedu / etc classes
~~~
thank you everyone and have fun!
