oh, i love to play with photoshop, and i know this problem well - you find this and that function and say "wow" and keep going until nothing is left of the original, haha...
do you know the trick of blending a blurred, dimmed version to the sharp original? someone told me that and it works fantastic... it took me some trials until i found out how it works best for me... i'll show you an example - when you look at it in fullest view, you can see the blurry shine, while you still can spot the sharp original...
