Hi everyone,
First I would say that I have always loved this battle ship ! I watched The Captain Harlock TV Serie when I was a child, I have always been very impressed by the big skeleton head on the front ! But finally, I find the design as great as in the 80's !
I was very happy to find this kit on ebay, it's an injection plastic kit from Bandai. An real old one because the copyright on the model is 1982 dated !!! Surprised It should be the year of the new Captain Harlock TV serie release.
I bought it because of the scale ! 1/1000 is about 45 cm ! But I'm not really a mecha specialist so don't be too hard with me !
The plastic base color was a dark glossy green, so I completely airbrushed it with some different flat greens.The details are hand brushed.
I tried to make weathering effects on the front and the side of the ship with color pencils.
I hope you will enjoy it !

I have one of these. I going to paint in black when I get around to building it. It's a little idea I borrowed from Alan Moore. In one of his 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' books, the daughter of Capt. Nemo takes over the refitted Nautilus, which was painted black, with Nemo's skull mounted on the bow.
So I pictured the Arcadia being taken over by Harlock's daughter, who continues her father's work, but in a far more ruthless manner.
And let's face it, green sucks as a color for a rover. If I was a pirate, black is the way to go.

You're right, a black color scheme may suit better for a pirat ship, but as a SSX fan, I preffered sticking to the original one !

Well, considering the Arcadia's usual backdrop(space) green does make the ship eaiser to see. It's the same reason Godzilla is often colored green in comic books instead of the dark charcoal grey he is in the movies.

This angle really shows the impressiveness of the battleship! The shallow field-of-depth adds to the sense of a big ship.

It is a really big ship because "in real" it may be about 450m length !!!
